Classic PlayStation RPG and sequel to the legendary title Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross has been been confirmed for release over PSN. As a special surprise for reaching 20,000 followers on the Square Enix Members Twitter account, Producer Shinji Hashimote made the reveal. There's currently no release date set for the PSN Games Archives, but a non-Japanese release is likely month away. There were also hints at another announcement to be made in order to commemorate the achievement.Chrono Cross was an extremely well received RPG that also put up with a lot of criticism because it wasn't very similar to Chrono Trigger. The soundtrack alone is considered one of the best ever made. For a taste, take a look a the original intro movie for Chrono Cross:

The Director of Chrono Cross was well aware of the response many gamers would have to such a huge departure from Chrono Trigger, prior to the release of the game. His thoughts mirror mine, when he said:

"Cross is undoubtedly the highest quality Chrono that we can create right now. (I won't say the 'best' Chrono, but) If you can't accept that, then I'm sorry to say this but I guess your Chrono and my Chrono have taken totally different paths."

The original PlayStation was my primary console when I began actively investing in video games. Before the PlayStation I was more of a holidays only kind of video game acquirer, a friend's house and pizza shop arcade gamer. The RPGs of the PlayStation changed that, with games like Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy 7, Lunar 2 and Suikoden, but my favorite of all was Chrono Cross.

Chrono Cross' narrative, it's unique and exciting combat system and the characters, oh the characters. The story of Serge, Kid, Lynx and a cast of over 45 party members was deep and endearing and captured my imagination like never before. Easily one of my favorite games of all time, I can't recommend Chrono Cross (when it finally becomes available for download) enough. Give the soundtrack a listen, at the least!

Any Ranters share my undying love for Chrono Cross? Or are you among those can couldn't stand the game's drastic differences from Chrono Trigger?

Chrono Cross will be available for download over the PlayStation Network sometime in the (likely) distant future. Stay tuned to Game Rant for more information as it breaks.
