It’s easy to lose focus on the impending releases of Pokémon Black and White when promotional Pokémon for all of the existing titles on the DS keep popping up. Recent events have given gamers access to Ash’s Pikachu and all three of the shiny legendary dogs, and now yet another giveaway will be taking place at GameStop stores across North America.
The event in particular will give Pokémon faithfuls the long sought after legendary Pokémon Celebi. The adorable Psychic/Grass hybrid can’t be obtained regularly in-game, and this is the only legit way to capture the otherwise unobtainable creature. Celebi will be available for download later this month exclusively at GameStop, and the requirements are fairly minimal. All downloadees will need is a copy of Pokémon Heart Gold, Pokémon Soul Silver, Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon Diamond, or Pokémon Pearl in order to receive their legendary gift.
If getting the legendary Celebi for free doesn’t already seem like a good deal then spastic gamers may find some relief in the knowledge that transferring Celebi to the upcoming Pokémon Black and White titles will allow them to obtain yet another rare Pokémon. In the same way that the shiny legendary dogs will give trainers the ability to capture Zoroark, Celebi will give players access to Zoroark’s pre-evolved form, Zorua. The “Tricky Fox Pokémon” Zorua can not be captured in Black and White without Celebi, so this downloadable piece of awesomeness is pretty much a two-for-one.
Giveaways are always a nice way to reward loyal fans, and Nintendo has really been pouring them on as of late. Currently, people can connect to their local wifi connection and download a shiny Entei, or head to a nearby Toys R Us and download Ash’s Pikachu. Nintendo has also announced plans to allow early adopters of Black and White the chance to download Victini, but it will only be available for the first month after the new games are released. Those Pokémon are all pretty strong, but they still can’t compete with the best Pokémon ever.
Celebi will become available for download at GameStops across North America starting on February 21, and the event will end on March 6 – the same day Pokémon Black and White are set to hit retailers.
Will you be heading to your local GameStop to download Celebi? Have you participated in the other Pokémon download giveaways?

I have NEVER owned a celebi
Is there any news of this give away coming to Australia or the UK???
It will be coming to the UK to the video game retailer GAME. They are also being given out at Pokemon Black and White Tours which are happening across the globe, so keep an eye out for one near you.
Nothing official for Australia yet, but there should be word soon
Cheers Riley
I am currently in Australia but moving to the UK one week after Pokemon BW release, perfect game for the long flight
So I should get the event at some point along the way
Sooooo excited 20 days
Most excellent. Most excellent indeed. B)
You speak the truth. I’ve never had a Celebi before, so it’ll be cool to finally get one!
As soon as I read about it on GameRant, I took off for GameStop, but it was too late, and I could only get Suicune. But what’s the deal with all this Wonder Card stuff? I don’t like the sound of it.
Wonder Cards are essentially just bits of info that are stored on your profile after downloading an event.
You can only store three of them at a time, but you can delete them once your full. Don’t worry, you’ll always be able to download this stuff.
Haha awesome enthusiasm, but the Celebi event doesn’t start until February 21. Only 4 more days to go and Celebi is yours
Oh. And I was all old-fashioned tech-hating for a second. “These new rules and such, always confabling m’favorite games!” So I’m totally getting Victini as well. One thing that kinda grates on me is the Friend Code. Is there any way to battle/trade WITHOUT having to deal with typing in fifteen numbers manually?
No, that’s the one downside to all DS games. The 3DS addresses that though by having one universal friend code, so at least Nintendo has learned from their mistakes.
Sadly, there isn’t, much to the chagrin of, well, everyone.
Can people in Australia get celibi?and if so how?
Downloaded Celebi at gamestop on Pokemon Diamond Game. Put it in PC box, saved, exit game. When back to game and celebi is gone. Anyone know how to get it back. Download event at GameStop over.
Trying 2 obtain some of the legendary pokemon 2 add 2 my collection. Thanks 4 your time.
