Spike VGAs 2012: ‘Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2′ Trailer [Updated]

Last we had seen Castlevania: Lords of Shadow protagonist Gabriel Belmont he had just battled his way through wave after wave of unsightly supernatural creatures only to become the one thing he hates the most: a vampire. More than that, though, an epilogue to the game revealed that he had become THE vampire, Dracula.

Now, in the second trailer for the game’s sequel, Lords of Shadow 2, gamers are reintroduced to Belmont/Dracula, who wakes up from what must have been quite the slumber. As the character (voiced by Once Upon a Time‘s Robert Carlyle) narrates, gamers see brief glimpses of Belmont’s past, and provided some very quick looks at the actual game in action.

Unfortunately, those brief looks at the gameplay don’t look all that different from what was on display in the first game — meaning Lords of Shadow 2 will still primarily be a button mashing, hack-and-slash title in the vein of God of War.

And what about the first CG trailer? The one that suggested Lords of Shadow 2 might feature some sort of co-op element — potentially with Castlevania fan-favorite character Alucard as a playable character. Seems like that detail will have to be addressed in a later trailer.

What do you think of the trailer? How do you hope this game ties in with the story of the first Lords of Shadow?

We’ll have the official trailer up shortly, in the mean time follow Game Rant on Twitter and watch all of the Spike Video Game Awards trailers and unveilings here.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 currently has no release date but should be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
