Capcom promises to release three 'major titles' by the end of the year, with many speculating that Resident Evil 7 could be one of the mysterious games.

This week, Capcom has had lots to say about its finances, with the company revealing that, during the 12 months between April 2015 and March 2016, its net sales were $714 million – largely due to its digital re-releases and its DLC sales. Overall, net sales were up by 20% over the previous year, which is especially impressive as one of the company’s most highly anticipated games, Street Fighter 5, massively missed its sales target.

But Capcom hasn’t just spent the last few days celebrating its improved financials, though, as the company has now told investors how it plans to continue its successful run in the future. The company confirmed that it will release three “major titles” during the financial year, which ends on March 31, 2017.

One of these is a Monster Hunter game that is expected to sell around 2 million units. No details were offered about the new MH title, but with the franchise proving as popular as ever (2015 release Monster Hunter X has had 3 million digital sales on 3DS and mobile title Monster Hunter Explore has had 3 million downloads), that target certainly seems achievable.

Regarding the unannounced games on that list, Capcom didn’t offer any hints as to what those titles could be, but one popular theory is that "MajorTitle1" is a new Resident Evil game. Expected to sell 4 million units, it makes sense that this game would be a new entry in an existing Capcom franchise as opposed to a new IP, but that’s not the only reason why fans are convinced.

Capcom also recently revealed that it is planning a “full-scale offensive” for the Resident Evil franchise for the second half of the year, though it’s unclear if the company was referring to the financial year or the second half of 2016. The company is already planning re-releases of Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 and multiplayer title Umbrella Corps is also set to keep Resi fans occupied, but a release of Resident Evil 7 is what many fans are asking for. Indeed, the hype alone for the title could carry the game to 4 million sales.

Other suggestions for "MajorTitle2" are new Dead Rising or Devil May Cry games. Dead Rising 3 sold one and a half million copies after just nine months on sale as an Xbox One exclusive, and perhaps Capcom expects a new Dead Rising game to hit 2 million if it releases on several platforms at once. DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition also saw incredibly positive reviews upon release, with many fans of the series hoping for a brand new game. Moreover, it could even be Capcom’s PS4 exclusive Deep Down, with a trademark filing from earlier this year suggesting that Capcom only has until February 2017 to use the name ‘Deep Down’ commercially.
