Call of Duty: Vanguard features a massive lineup of weaponry for gamers to make use of. However, for players who like to fully level a gun before moving onto the next, they may not have had the chance to try much of the Call of Duty: Vanguard arsenal just yet.

Most players have agreed that weapon leveling takes too long, and there are a few reasons why this is the case. For starters, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s gunsmith is more in depth than previous iterations of the system. Players now have ten slots of customization for their guns, with a few new additions like custom ammunition, which means there are more weapon levels than ever before. As such, players are going to need to put more time with the weapons in order to level them up fully.

Guns taking a while to level up could also motivate players to engage more with Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Operators and play as the different characters. Each Operator has a favorite weapon that levels up that Operator faster, with the Operator also leveling up said weapon quickly. While there are only 12 guns covered in this system, it could be a reason that Sledgehammer Games made the levels take so long to get through. Still, Redditors like DocDeezy have had enough of this lengthy leveling process, with the Reddit user choosing to “complain” in a long post on the game’s official subreddit.

In the post, DocDeezy points out that it will take an “8-hour shift” to level up each gun, a fair estimate if players are not using a Double Weapon XP token. They also mention the issue with Call of Duty: Vanguard’s challenges not tracking, something that has proven to be a problem for many gamers. In their eyes, the system is just far too demanding. Pointing out that they are a “CoD no-lifer” that has the mastery camos in the other games, even they cannot handle this yeat’s grind.

The fan argues that unlocking all the camos was easier in Blackout mode, adding that they will be playing Valorant “until CoD fixes their broken Weapon XP.” In the comments, players like Petroschek say that they fully agree with the fan’s rant and call for change, with Petroschek adding that the grind is just as bad for Zombies fans. With players needing to level up weapons to unlock camo challenges, the length of that leveling is halting one of the main grinds that fans enjoy doing.

Hopefully, Sledgehammer Games continues to listen to the game’s fan base and makes an adjustment to weapon leveling. With the developer confirming that a fix is on the way for Search and Destroy’s bomb bug, there is hope that these weapon XP issues will also be addressed.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
