Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has started off the new decade strong with a flurry of news and gameplay updates coming soon. But veterans and fans everywhere will be excited after hearing about another recent announcement. In the near future, Infinity Ward will be bringing back a highly requested feature in the form of Weapon Mastery Calling Cards.

Calling Cards have been a staple of many previous titles in the series including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Clicking on "Personalization" from the multiplayer menu, players can use different cards along with emblems in a variety of customization options for their profile. These cards can be acquired through various means such as completing objectives, winning in specific game modes, or even as a part of various promotions. However, calling cards earned from showing skill with certain weapons have been notably absent from Modern Warfare, until now.

On the Modern Warfare subreddit, Joel Emslie, the studio art director for Infinity Ward, responded that Weapon Mastery Calling cards are currently in visual development right now. From there, they will go into art production before being hooked up and scripted in the system. At that point, the cards will be tested, confirmed that they can be earned, and finally pushed out onto the live servers. Note that Emslie states there is no ETA yet for this future update.

With the upcoming return of Weapon Mastery Calling cards, players will finally have more challenges that were previously requested and rewards to work towards. More importantly, the implementation of this feature means that Infinity Ward could consider adding other missing content from previous installments back in. As stated, however, it's going to be a while before these cards are added, so players should expect a minimum release of a few months, perhaps with the announcement of Season 2.

Taking a step back, this isn't the only update that the art team at Infinity Ward has been working on since the new year. Emslie talked earlier last week about adding camo and other solid colors for weapon skins at some point. Furthermore, it shows that Infinity Ward is taking steps to listen, respond, and address helpful feedback or questions compared to blatant criticism.

In the end, there may be some players who are burnt out or uninterested in the current state of Modern Warfare, even with its quality-of-life improvements and post-release content. However, even more updates are coming soon throughout five other seasons in 2020, so now is as good a time as ever to jump back into the action.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
