Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 banked a decent (read: rec0rd-breaking) amount in sales when it launched last month to rave reviews and record-breaking online player numbers.
Activision’s goal with the sequel to Modern Warfare was to earn the same money we see in blockbuster films and they succeeded like none have done before. So, with that success comes curiousity and speculation to the franchise which as traditionally had one game released per year, alternating between its two developers: Treyarch and their current World at War franchise and Infinity Ward with their Modern Warfare series.
As we now know, these two studios have absolutely no ties together other than the branding and work in their own ways to develop their titles. Sadly, this means for us players that they don’t work to include the best parts of each others’ titles into their own.
Well, now that MW2 has been launched and we may see a (rumored) Cold War-themed World at War 2 next Fall, Activision has recently added a THIRD developer to work on another Call of Duty property.
We saw a similar trend in EA DICE’s Battlefield series which started with a WWII themed game in Battlefield 1942 followed by a Vietnam-based title then Battlefield 2 which was set in the present. The next installment was of course Battlefield 2142 which I loved but wasn’t as popular as Battlefield 2.
I’d love to see what Call of Duty would look like in the future and it can open the doors to all sorts of new gameplay and options – who better to bring that to us then Activision and their developers?
That being said, it may not be so simple a guess as we also heard that they’re considering a Call of Duty MMO. I’m not a fan of paying subscription fees for a single title when so many other games are out there to play but with Activision Blizzard now leading the charge in the FPS genre and no real widely popular mainstream FPS MMO out there, this is the franchise to break the barrier.
Not only can they see a crazy amount of unit sales, but the profit they’d make off of DLC, subscription fees and possible microtransactions are staggeringly high.
What do you expect from the future of Call of Duty and would you like a future-based game or an MMO?

Great idea for Call of Duty: Future Warfare! I dont know how you came up with this but its brilliant
I would like Future Warfare. The only reason this is is because I don’t know how they could possibly pull off an FPS MMO.
It’s just not technically feasible to have a CoD MMO at this point in time (not in its current fast paced format), but when worldwide network infrastructures start to catch up with countries like South Korea and Japan, then we’ll start to see some awesome MMO’s. That may take 10-15 years unfortunately.
hi just play nice…….
Call of Duty: Future Warfare FTW!!
I’d be interested if this came about. Bring me more COD.
If there would be a Call of Duty FPS MMORPG, the would deft be the competition for WOW, as u know something unthinkable but who better to do the job than Activision who just so happen to be the developer for WOW, so they bank no matter what. Although a Future warfare, some like “Call of Duty: Nuclear wars” where they can focus on Weapons of MASSIVE DESTRUCTION and Human armors fit for that kind of war. The only thing i have to say to Activision is. Do ur best!
It’s lame someone would even pay for this.. the game gets boring after a month! similar to WOw.
A future Warfare title would be HORRIBLE! I loved the RTS game Rise of Nations but when they did a future based title as their sequel…it SUCKED! Same goes for Battlefield. Loved Battlefield 1942, Vietnam and Battlefield 2. Absolutely HATED Battlefield 2142. Both future based game sucked ass in my opinion.
I’d much rather see a Call of Duty MMO and if its anything like Lord of the Rings Online or better i’d definately buy it on release day! Just like Modern Warfare 2! A console CoD MMO would be even better! Nothing like eating in bed while playing the PS3!
“we can expect a Cold War-themed World at War 2 next Fall”
you just made that up, complete lie
how about making it a resident evil like game !!!
a game about zombies, bio weapons, corrupted bio-weaponry company and private military …etc
the zombies will be very slow at the beginning but they attack in large numbers
later the company/villain develop a faster and more aggressive zombies !!
if they made this kind of game it will be awesome !!
sorry for my english …
doa766 where r lies
keep up

@ doa766,
Nope, no one made anything up. That’s the current rumor supported by the fact that Activision announced that they’re done with WW2-based games and that there are reports of Treyarch licensing music from that era.
So calling it a “a complete lie” and that we made it up is trolling. No need for that.
how is it even possible to have a Cold War based FPS? There wasn’t even a bullet fired between the US and Russia.
Activision recently said that COD 7 would be ‘historic’. Now historic could be any war but I’m thinking that there could be one involving the Revolutionary War or Civil War. But before Activision’s comment I thought of a cool idea for Call of Duty. What if their was a Call of Duty that wasn’t about war? I thought it might be cool if they did one with the police, secret service, FBI or something! Let me know what you think of this.
By the way here is the link to where I found out about COD 7 being ‘historic’. Also I was wrong it wasn’t Activision who said it would be ‘historic’ it was Treyarch but close enough!

meh, ace online is a good shooter, not a person shooter like COD though. good game though
the problem with shooter mmo's is that an mmo has to have a persistant world, this means COD wouldnt have ” find match” options it would just have a big battleground with fights poping up where players where at.
it would probally be like eve online, just not i space..
um look up MAG. its a fps mmo 256 players in one big ass map and can still run 60 frames per second
