‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Will Have a Co-Op Mode; Infinity Ward Keeping Quiet on Details

Call of Duty Ghosts Coop

Infinity Ward has confirmed cooperative play will return for Call of Duty: Ghosts, but they won’t say in what form it will return just yet. Most have been speculating that Ghosts will feature some riff on the Spec Ops mode, but as of right now we don’t know.

Another easy candidate for a Call of Duty: Ghosts cooperative element would be a full co-op campaign. Ghosts focusing on only two protagonists – brothers, in fact – this time around so it’s conceivable that the game would let a duo play as each main character.

At the same time, Infinity Ward’s Community Coordinator Candice Capen hints that Ghosts will feature a dedicated co-op mode. In a Twitter conversation with a Call of Duty fan, she confirmed Call of Duty: Ghosts will have a cooperative mode, but had no idea when, or if, Infinity Ward was going to make a formal announcement.

To that end, Capen used the qualifier “of sort” in her tweet, which leads us to believe the cooperative element in Call of Duty: Ghosts might be something a little different. Spec Ops has been a longstanding staple of the Infinity Ward brand of Call of Duty, but perhaps it is time to try something new. Again, that could be a full cooperative campaign, but there can be arguments made for and against that type of mode.

Another potential candidate is a revamped version of Spec Ops: Survival, Modern Warfare 3‘s take on the popular wave-based horde concept. In Survival, teams of two would try their best to survive an escalating number of combatants.

After each round, players could use their accumulated points to purchase new weapons, attachments, artillery strikes, and various other killstreaks. Spec Ops: Survival was a fine addition to the franchise, one that could benefit from a second go-round, but maybe it’s time for something new.

For that matter, Infinity Ward has yet to detail the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Ghosts and what new features it will be bringing to the table. Historically, that announcement trailer has arrived some time in September – Modern Warfare 3‘s multiplayer was revealed at Call of Duty XP 2011 – but we have yet to hear any news either way.

If/when Infinity Ward chooses to reveal Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ cooperative mode/element, we will make sure to bring you first details.

What type of cooperative mode would you like to see from Call of Duty: Ghosts? Do you want to see something like Spec Ops or Spec Ops: Survival, or something different?

Call of Duty: Ghosts releases November 5, 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. PS4 and Xbox One release dates have not been announced.

  1. I would love to see a co-op campain

  2. Per Author…(Spec Ops: Survival was a fine addition to the franchise, one that could benefit from a second go-round, but maybe it’s time for something new.)

What???Spec Ops survival is a new addition why NOT keep it on Ghost? Please I hope they add it to Ghost and doesn’t go with something all together new and different…NOT yet at least!

  3. They should bring back Spec. Ops: Survival. It’s so fun and addicting that I STILL play it every day. Would be disappointing if Ghosts didn’t have Survival or a mode like/better than it.

  4. i hope they make a survival type mode that was fun but make it so if your teamate dies you can still finish the round…. make that something you can buy or what have you i still play the survival now that i am prestige master in bo2… its no fun id love for a new and improved survival maby with upgrades to your drop teams like delta or riot gears…. maby be able to upgrade their weapons or armor or shier numbers…. maby upgrades to the sentrys or be able to airdrop jugernauts for your team something new or upgradable would be nice

  6. I really hope infinity ward brings back survival mode. It was fun, in a way I though it was better than Black Ops series’ zombies mode because you were actually able to do stuff tactically in survival mode. Zombies mode gave you no chance to do anything tactically. Survival mode was fun.

  7. If there are some people out there that thought survival mode sucked they should at least understand that Infinity Ward was probably trying to do something new here.

  8. Infinity Ward should change the survival mode like this: 1) you can play up to 4 players. 2) the maps give you more of a chance to do something strategic. 3) you could camo your character and in certain maps, when you go to certain places and prone, you can’t be seen by the enemy (unless of course you start shooting). 4) The movement, motion, weapon handling speeds, and vaulting over stuff (pretty much the entire gameplay) should be faster than they were in mw3 but slower than they were in BO 2. In mw3 they were around decent/ slow but in BO 2 they were unrealistically fast. 5) WE WANT SUPPRESSORS IN SURVIVAL MODE! EVEN AFTER I UNLOCKED THE SUPPRESSOR IN MW3 I COULDNT USE IT! IT JUST SAID NA! 6) killstreaks in BO 2 were awesome. 7) maps should be categorized by types instead of levels. Some maps could be large and open in the center, great for firefights, but towards the edges, there are lots of narrow passageways, great for close quarters engagements, and Infinity should have high places in maps instead of always being at ground level. Perfect for snipers. Some maps could be specifically for close quarters engagements, some could be specifically for stealth, and so on.

    • Well said. Great ideas!! I like the survival mode as well and logged many hours.

  9. I hope Ghosts has a co_op one thing I enjoyed about Tom Clancys future soldier was that my buddy and I could complete the campaign together. I found myself protecting him and making sure he was ok after he got hit. It would make sense to me that if the new characters in ghost are supposed to be brothers from rumors Ive heard. That it would give the game a more personal touch and make you protect your partner as opposed to just a shoot em up style format.
