The Call of Duty community may have been gearing up for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and all the changes it will bring, but today, CoD players are mourning the loss of one of their own. Professional Call of Duty player Maurice “Fero” Henriquez suddenly passed away late last night, with the apparent cause of death being multiple heart attacks.

Fero (stylized as "F3ro") played for the Florida Mutineers, a Call of Duty League team that has been extremely active and respectful following the loss of one of their star players. In a message posted on social media, the team “sadly confirms today the sudden passing,” making sure to report that “his tragic death was not ruled a suicide” despite early rumors saying as such.

Dying at only 21 years of age, the terrible news makes other Call of Duty League announcements seem small in comparison. The post from the official Florida Mutineers Twitter account sees the team say how “he will be missed every day,” as the “unfathomable loss” of Fero has had a heavy effect on his teammates and friends. What the team and League do to commemorate the fallen player remains to be seen, but it is shocking to see someone so young die so suddenly.

Numerous Call of Duty pros paid their respects to Fero such as CoD loadout expert NICKMERCS, who praised the player’s skill in tournaments and reiterated how precious life is. Esports veteran Goldenboy echoed this sentiment, talking about how Fero is gone too soon and had so much left to accomplish, “but surely will never be forgotten.” Toronto Ultra player Methodz shared that his “heart is shattered,” highlighting Fero’s humor, while Muddawg shared how heartbroken he is after becoming so close with the player “over the past few years.”

The family of Maurice Henriquez took to Twitter via their son’s account, thanking the Call of Duty League community for their “love and support.” They end their brief tweet saying that they “would also appreciate privacy at this time,” an understandable request that will hopefully be adhered to by fans and media alike. With dozens of players and thousands of fans sharing their love for the incredibly talented SMG user, though, hopefully the positive words still reach the family members that need to hear them.

Like many players and fans have said, this sudden loss of a young star should remind everyone to love and appreciate those around them. The passing of Maurice “F3ro” Henriquez has brought everyone involved with the Call of Duty League together, giving Fero the heartfelt goodbye that he deserves.
