When you think about playing a game on a console you probably don't think about paying a subscription fee for any specific title, especially an FPS. When you're already paying for something like Xbox Live - on top of paying for the internet, the game, the console, etc. - the extra money seems like a scam. When Activision first announced their plans to launch a pay to use service that would be used to enhance your experience with Call of Duty, a lot of gamers (myself included) were angry.

Thankfully, Activision did announce that the new service, Call of Duty Elite, would offer a free version for gamers not willing to fork over the extra cash, while the hardcore get to enjoy Call of Duty Elite "Premium" and all of its benefits. While the free version of Call of Duty Elite will not have quite as many features as the "Premium" version, it still offers some pretty interesting innovations to online gaming. The service certainly is gearing up to change the way we play competitive online games and now PS3 players can see what it's all about.

Even though Call of Duty Elite Beta started for the Xbox back in July, Activision finally announced today that Call of Duty Elite Beta, to be used with Call of Duty: Black Ops, will start rolling out  invites to PS3 users. The beta program will start off in stages, first with limited invitations going out to PS3 users starting today. The beta is aiming to test certain features like stat tracking, custom player groups, competitive events, and video sharing. A giant upgrade that will enable all of the service's features will go live when it is officially launched on November 8th along with Modern Warfare 3.

If you are a premium member of Call of Duty Elite you will receive all the DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 during the 9 month DLC season. The DLC is said to be 20 pieces of new in-game content. As for players who don't sign up right away, theywill not be punished for taking the time to decide and jumping in late. The DLC will be available to them as well "a la carte."

If you would like to register for the beta you can do so at the official Call of Duty website. You can also get updates and additional information on the Call of Duty Elite facebook page or follow them on Twitter @CallofDutyElite.

Call of Duty Elite will be available to everyone November 8th.
