It didn’t take long to find the tears in Activision‘s recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops. Less than 24 hours after the game launched at midnight, video has hit the internet detailing yet another game-breaking glitch in the online multiplayer.
It was clear going into the launch that both the developer and publisher hoped the new entry would be able to come close to the record success that Call of Duty‘s last title, Modern Warfare 2 had enjoyed. Apparently, that included the blockbuster title’s set of glitches.
The tear in question is found in the multiplayer map ‘Crisis.’ At the map’s starting point, a military vehicle sits motionless. By approaching the vehicle from a certain direction, it’s possible for a player to clip in and disappear from sight. While other players are unable to see or shoot the player caught inside the vehicle, it is possible for them to see outside, shoot, and throw grenades.
Players will need to keep their eyes peeled, so check out the video below to get an idea of what you’re up against:
Given the intimidating nature and hardcore community of Call of Duty multiplayer, the first day was likely to be the last that players would be on a level playing-field. While everyone was learning the new maps and game modes, newcomers may have seen the opportunity to jump in without being outmatched. It would seem that those hopes have already been dashed.
To make matters worse, another glitch has hit the internet that puts the last one to shame. It’s hard to put into words how something like this could have made it past the play-testers, but you’ll have to see it to believe it:
It should really come as no surprise that glitches would be found this soon considering just how many people stood in line to get copies last night. There were bound to be some missed bugs in the game modes and maps, but with the first identified so quickly, this may be a sign that more than a handful of hiccups have made it into the finished product.
We already know that there are some secrets in the game that Treyarch has left for particularly inquisitive players, but hopefully there won’t be many more of these game-breaking tears for cheaters to exploit. The question now is how the developers will remedy the situation, both in fixing the tears and addressing the experience points that players will gain by abusing it.
Several developers have already made it clear that they disapprove of cheaters, while others have gone even farther by banning them from the community. With a launch this high-profile, the developers will likely be committed to avoiding any bad press, so hopefully the situation will be resolved before a new batch of glitches rolls in.
If you’re considering hopping into the game’s multiplayer to hand out justice to would-be cheaters, make sure you read our in-depth guide first. Then be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for grenade-lobbing tanks.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii in stores now.
