After rumors began circulating last month, Activision has finally confirmed that this year's entry in the smash-hit shooter franchise, Call of Duty, will be none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. This will come across as great news for those that were hoping to dive back into the universe that first introduced the fan-favorite characters of Frank Woods, Alex Mason and more.

While the story itself has been closely followed and preferred by some fans, however, one of the most appealing aspects of any Treyarch-made Call of Duty title has always been Zombie mode – something that will allegedly be returning in the upcoming third iteration of Black Ops later this year.

The inclusion of the beloved Zombies mode in the new game was first discovered within the source code for the newly launched Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 website. Originating from the official description that's been tucked away within the site itself, fans learned that they'll be able to shoot up the undead with friends – undoubtedly to the shared delight of a bounty of other consumers.

"With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, [Black Ops 3 provides] fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever."

Following up last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare could prove to be challenging given the warm critical reception that it received upon its arrival. Still, returning to an established branch of the franchise could help to reverse the downward sales spiral that the Call of Duty franchise has been experiencing over the course of the past few installments.

Following the arrival of pricey Exo Zombies DLC in Advanced Warfare, it'll be a relief for gamers hoping to have the mode featured within the core game itself. It'll be interesting to see how Treyarch plans on handling the living dead this time around. Whatever the developer has planned, be sure to stick to Game Rant for updates on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and its Zombies modes.
