Heading into the weary end of the summer, it may be that the bank account is a little low. You could get yourself a real job… but where’s the fun in that?

Microsoft and Activision have teamed up to give players a chance to earn some serious cash by doing what they love: playing Call of Duty. The payout: a staggering combined $1 million in cash and prizes.

The $1 Million Tournament will consist of 32 four-person teams, with each team having to earn a place in the competitor pool. Through testing their mettle at Gamescom, GameStop, the Call of Duty XP event, as well as Operations in the Call of Duty Elite Beta, players will have ample chances to get their names on the board.

If you’re interested (and it’s hard not to be with $1 million worth of prizes on the line), and already included in the Call of Duty Elite Beta, your chances to qualify are as follows:

August 5th & 6th

Team Deathmatch: Most Kills

Domination: Most Defends

The full breakdown has been posted on the official site, where the sign-ups for the selected positions are located. Once all the slots are filled the top eight teams will be in contention for the top prize, a whopping $400,000. The remaining $600,000 will be divvied-up among the runner-up teams - though no official breakdown has been announced. This kind of publicity is a brilliant way for Treyarch and Activision to celebrate its 2 million Call of Duty Elite beta subscribers - and the two-week old birth of the beta itself - as well as give fans a chance at some real cash.

Tournaments have become an increasingly profitable endeavor for the best of the best in the gaming world - even Valve has its own $1 million dollar competition primed and ready to go.

We'll see where the bullets fly and how heated the competition gets for the top prize as the week continues.
