Call of Duty: Modern Warfare just rolled out its huge Season 1 update a week ago, and players already have a lot to say about the many changes it brought to the game. In this case, players are less than satisfied with the revamped progression system in Modern Warfare's multiplayer experience--though one fan has devised a change to that system that players on Reddit are already responding to.

To be fair, there are also plenty of things that Modern Warfare players like about the update, but the many hiccups they uncovered in the first week alone should keep Infinity Ward busy for the immediate future. The Season 1 update already got its first patch the day after release, and another update the following week; for all the backlash from fans, Infinity Ward seems to be taking steps to address the issue.

Essentially, the new progression system in Season 1 is built to make sure that player ranks match up to the season-based content that is planned to drop over the course of the next year. Modern Warfare's previous prestige system is decades old now, but while the progression system was meant to be a breath of fresh air, fans haven't been terribly receptive to it. So one player shared their idea for a hybrid progression system that combines elements of both via the community subreddit; the reimagined progression system followed a more prestige-based format while allowing continuous weapon ranking. "Stop restoring the level cap every season, make the progression more satisfying," the Redditor wrote, also adding that players should get new badges every 100 levels, for maxing out a set of Officer ranks.

This Redditor's ambitious plan also called for players to have the ability to display their earned badges, either by selecting them to appear with a player’s calling card or by allowing players to wear them right on their Operator’s uniform. Altogether, the plan is a relatively simple mashup of prestige and progression, one that members on the subreddit seem to vastly prefer over the progression system that Infinity Ward has given them in the Season 1 update. Still, this is just a concept, and one formulated by a member of the Modern Warfare community and not a developer; given that, it's unlikely that Infinity Ward would adopt this change or any at all to its redesigned system.

With Season 1 well underway (and many players likely getting close to maxing their Officer ranks) Activision and Infinity Ward at least appear determined to improve some parts of Modern Warfare, even if it's not the progression system. The companies went so far as to send out a survey to lapsed players and find out what would get them playing again, so it's fair to assume that players can expect many more updates in Modern Warfare's future.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
