Well ladies and gentlemen, have your mother, father, friends, or significant other been giving you a hard time for your so-called "addiction" to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Then make sure they don't read this. Because while this may be good news to you, they sure as heck don't know what they're in for.

If you haven't already heard about the new wager game modes available in Treyarch's next Call of Duty installment, Black Ops, you should check it out. For many here at Game Rant, the game modes alone have us considering adopting this newest edition as our game night proving grounds. It's no secret that adding an element of risk and reward, or currency can take a game from being a fun hobby to a dangerous addiction (looking at you FarmVille) but Black Ops may just be taking things to a whole new level.

According to Treyarch's Community Manager Josh Olin, this was their plan all along.

Here's what Olin had to say when CVG asked if the new additions would add to potential gamer addiction:

"That's the hope. If we can have you guys playing our game 24/7, we would. Ok, maybe bathroom and food breaks... we don't need any more controversy.

"Gambling is such a core, competitive form. Gambling is the ultimate form of competition. So we knew we wanted to do that with Black Ops - originally we were thinking about doing it with XP but we can't de-level you - and we realised pretty quickly that we needed a form of currency."

I'm sure if you are reading this site, you are within the group of people who realize that games, like anything worth spending time on, can become addictive, and problematic, if not taken in moderation. We also know the Call of Duty franchise is not afraid of controversy - and they'll likely catch some flack for this quote.

Black Ops Multiplayer

I definitely look forward to any game that I can't put down, and while some might call that addiction, I just call it a great game. I've been impressed with what we've seen of Black Ops so far, but apparently when Treyarch said they wanted to out-do Infinity Ward, that meant generate even more public debate than their predecessor as well.

Treyarch looks like they're bringing a lot more to the franchise than any of us expected.

Get prepared to convince your loved ones that you can stop anytime you want to when Call of Duty: Black Ops hits Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, and DS on November 9, 2010.
