Everybody loves a good comeback story. Whether it involves an actor beating the odds to stage a triumphant return after years of abuse or Star Wars somehow still surviving after The Rise of Skywalker, there's a little bit of that good old underdog story that keeps audiences clawing for more. So when Brendan Fraser was forced out of public consciousness after his endlessly enjoyable George of the Jungle phase, it only made things that much sweeter when he finally re-emerged, ready to take on the world again.

After enjoying a surprising and extended stint as Cliff Steele/Robotman on DC's delightfully surreal HBO Max series Doom Patrol, Fraser gave audiences another pleasant treat when he joined the cast of the upcoming Batgirl movie. Keeping things real in DC land, he's set to play the villainous arsonist Garfield Lynns/Firefly in the Leslie Grace-led film, and it seems as though fans are already excited to see where he'll go with the character. Naturally, when fans get excited, fans make art, and this time is no different.

Hungarian Photoshop artist m.design34 posted a conceptual piece on Instagram offering a glimpse at how Fraser might look as Gotham City's resident pyromaniac. The design itself is particularly inspired, taking cues from what appears to be a typical firefighter getup while adding a Bane-style mask and plenty of burn scars to really amp up the bad guy flair. A burning building in the background sets the scene as well, which certainly seems like the kind of place one would find this particular antagonist. At least it's more likely than, say, an aquatic center.

The firefighter-style suit is an interesting choice. Pretty much nothing is known about Fraser's version of Firefly at this point, so the doors are open for speculation and theories aplenty. His comic book version seems to center more on a troubled childhood as the root of his fire-focused tendencies, so an alternate take where he perhaps gets burned up and left for dead while working for the fire department could be an interesting new direction.

Of course, there's no saying whether the Batgirl iteration of Firefly will take any liberties with his backstory, but one thing's for certain: Fraser is back and ready to take on the Bat. Well, at least one of the Bats, anyway. But who knows? Maybe if he's popular enough (and he earned it, dang it), he could make the jump to future projects with Robert Pattinson's Batman as well.

Naturally, that's all just speculation. But at this point, what else is there to go on? Fraser has been through a lot, facing abuse and being forced out of what looked to be a lucrative career. So there's nothing wrong with being optimistic about his future. He deserves some good work just as much as he deserves to relax with his Nintendo Switch. Either way, it's bound to be a fun few years.
