With less than a month to go until the release of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, fans of the series might be hungry for every last scrap of information before they make their own visit to the Hyperion moonbase. To that end, developers Gearbox and 2K Australia have released a walkthrough video recorded at PAX Prime, which centers on one of the four playable characters in the game; the 'Lawbringer' Nisha.

If you've played Borderlands 2, you might well have tackled Nisha as an optional boss — all four of the player characters in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel have appeared in the series beforehand as NPCs — but little was said about what fans could expect from playing as the Sheriff of Lynchwood when the game was first revealed.

Now, James Lopez of Gearbox and Joel Eschler of 2K Australia have given fans a comprehensive look at Nisha, narrating a detailed look at both her ability tree and some in-game action in the video above. The gunslinger looks to offer a few new twists on the series' familiar gameplay, not least via her melee ability, the bullwhip.

Borderlands Claptrap party

The bullwhip is pitched by Eschler as a series-first for Borderlands, a long-distance melee weapon. It's certainly in-keeping with the Old West stylings of the character, but its also one of many attempts in this game to offer a new experience to long time fans in the form of different twists on the abilities and character builds that we've seen before.

While the main focus of this walkthrough is Nisha, she is joined in her mission by Claptrap, playable for the first time in The Pre-Sequel. The fan-favorite character looks like a lot of fun, with chaotic abilities like Torgue Fiesta and Clap in the Box being exactly the sort of thing you'd expect from the talkative robot.

It would have been all too easy for The Pre-Sequel to be a half-hearted entry in this well-loved series, designed to tread water until the inevitable Borderlands 3. However, it really seems like everything possible is being done to ensure that it lives up to prior entries, while making the most of its non-mainline status to take a few risks as it goes.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set for release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 14, 2014.
