Announced today is a Game of the Year Edition for a game many players considered one of, if not the best game of 2009. Borderlands was released this past October to a lot of fanfare but unfortunately for many gamers it got lost under the juggernaut that was Fallout 3. But if you were lucky enough to get your hands on this “role-playing shooter” then you realized that a diamond was hidden in the rough.

Those who picked up Borderlands found:

“A highly addictive video game that calls for unleashing furious anger upon a sinister corporation’s well-armed armada and Pandora’s local inhospitable inhabitants, while searching for the secret of The Vault that is chock full of extra bonuses and add-ons.”

As expected, the Game of the Year Edition comes stock with all that Gearbox Software and 2K Games had to offer post release. For the price of $59.99 for the next gen versions and $49.99 for the PC version you are absolutely getting your money’s worth with tons of content. What better way to hear about all that comes with the game than to hear it from 2K Games themselves:

Borderlands Game of the Year edition will come with tokens for download of the recently announced add-on pack, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution, as well as the three previous best-selling destructive downloadable adventures - the living dead-filled The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, the ultimate video game survival of the fittest test Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, and the utterly fantastic The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. Also included, will be a complete and comprehensive map of the Borderlands territories.”

If you haven’t already played Borderlands and you had any inkling to give it a try then there is no reason not to pick up this copy of the game. Even if you didn’t have an interest, give our review of the game a read, and if that doesn’t convince you then it just isn’t for you, but I can assure you it will be your loss.

Borderlands has been receiving the type of treatment we expect from every game and this edition is no different. Substantial patches and new mission content have helped extend and better the experience. Games don’t receive a Game of the Year edition because they are sub-par. Do yourself a favor and play this game you will enjoy yourself.
