Gearbox Software has their hands full, what with the newly announced Duke Nukem: Forever finally approaching release. Don’t let that distract you from what will be the final, climactic conclusion to Borderlands though. The ‘Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution‘ DLC pack is priming up for an Sept. 28 release, and judging from these screenshots we’ve received, it’s looking like Gearbox has saved some of their best material for this final package.
Claptrap’s Revolution’s new areas are planned to be much larger than those found in the previous DLC packs, plus there’s increase of the level cap up to 69. So we’ll likely see a greater amount of content in the DLC, but what sort of content should we expect?
GamePro was recently visited by Gearbox and acquired some new details that sound like a lot of fun:
“The story goes something like this: Hyperion Corp., in an effort to rid the land of treasure hunters, creates the Claptrap Ninja Assassin. Claptrap’s around the land turn against Hyperion, and also “Claptrap-ify” many of the indigenous creatures–essentially the creatures now roam the land under the control of the Claptraps, with hilarious vacuum tubes attached to their heads. Aside from the aesthetic changes, the creatures are now more difficult, and often attack in tandem with the Claptrap armies. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford jokes that the creatures have “caught the clap.” “
Oh ho ho, nothing like jokes about venereal disease to get gamers excited about your game. Gearbox also mentions that we’ll be seeing a number of old bosses who have caught ‘The Clap’, which sounds like a great way to wrap up the game. Bring on the Mega Man-esque style where you fight all of the previous bosses before reaching the true final boss. Sounds like a great trip back through all of the best moments of Borderlands. Will they include some of the DLC bosses? We shall see.
Finally, here are some screenshots that Gearbox provided us, chock full of classy Borderlands humor:
Trains covered in bandits and psychos, vicious Claptraps with title-belts and boxing gloves, or ammo belts and warpaint, and what’s with that guy in the tinfoil hat? He’s going all Lawnmower Man or something.
Borderlands is a blast playing with friends, but I hate to admit I’ve never even finished the vanilla game. I even purchased most of the DLC since in one of Steam’s epic sales, but the PC multiplayer system makes it way too difficult to jump into a game with friends unless it’s a scheduled event. Despite that, Claptrap Revolution looks like it’d be worth revisiting the game in an effort to reach the level-cap before this DLC lands. You know that Ninja Assassin Claptrap is going to be worth checking out.
Planning on downloading the DLC pack, Ranters? Have you run through the Dr. Ned, Mad Moxie and General Knoxx DLC yet? Can you power-level my soldier for me, so I’m ready for the next DLC?
The Borderlands DLC pack ‘Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution’ is scheduled for an Sept. 28 release for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. You can purchase the package for around $10 in each platform’s respective pricing method. Or, you can purchase the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition which releases on Oct 12 as well, and includes all of the game’s DLC including Robot Revolution.
