Borderlands 2 Gore Toggle

Gearbox Software is hard at work on DLC for Borderlands 2 - which will see four "big" story add-ons and "at least" one new playable character (though gamers should definitely expect to see more) added to the current, not to mention lengthy, retail campaign. Considering many Borderlands players have already purchased the $30 campaign season pass (which includes the aforementioned story add-ons), it's no surprise that the studio, along with publisher Take-Two Interactive, are interested in a third trip to Pandora.

It will be awhile before Borderlands 3 is officially announced but franchise writer, Anthony Burch, is already working on some "general ideas" for the next installment in the series.

Speaking with the Totally Rad Show team, Burch briefly admitted that he is considering general ideas for Borderlands 3 - but, according to the writer, ensuring that the ideas will still be fresh in two years is a tricky prospect.

You can check out Burch discussing Borderland 3 in the video below (at the 9:39 mark) or skip ahead to the respective written quote.

The thing about game design is that it’s always so fluid that things can just change all the time so you don’t want to get too specific cause then you’re like ‘Oh, crap I've got to write myself out of this hole that I thought would be a really cool idea two years ago.’ I could Looper myself and punch myself in the dick for having stupid ideas. But, yeah, there are definitely some more general ideas I have for Borderlands 3 that I hope we get to see come to fruition.

Previously, Gearbox head Randy Pitchford had already stated that the fourth Borderlands 2 DLC add-on was still in the pre-concept stage - so it's not surprising to hear that Burch isn't ready to divulge any major Borderlands 3 details. At this point, those "general ideas" are most likely just overarching plans for the core Borderlands 3 story or possibly just scenarios and characters that didn't quite fit in Borderlands 2.

However, while some fans might be eager to hear where the Pandora story could go next, the bigger news here is that, this round, the writers have a little more continuity to work with - meaning, just as Borderlands characters make special appearances in Borderlands 2, it's certainly possible we'll see familiar faces in future sequels. It's equally likely that Gearbox could use those DLC expansions to tease some of the plot points that will be explored in Borderlands 3 - similar to how Mass Effect 2's "Lair of the Shadow Broker" and "Arrival" DLC helped bridge the two retail installments.

Borderlands 2 Badass Rank Bug

The original Borderlands was a surprise hit in 2009, with no precedent to determine whether or not the game would ever see a sequel, resulting in a three year gap between number 1 and 2. That said, now that Take-Two Interactive has included the franchise among its most notable offerings, it'll be interesting to see how long players actually have to wait for another retail follow-up.

In the meantime, there's still plenty of Borderlands 2 content en route - not to mention a massive core retail campaign chock full of easter eggs and secrets. Burch and the Gearbox team have delivered one of the wackiest titles on the market with plenty of tongue-in-cheek nods to 90s culture icons like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (in the mission "Splinter Group") as well as video game references - such as using the "Konami Code" at the Borderlands 2 start screen.

Unfortunately, the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start) only unlocks "Extra Wubs" mode - which does absolutely nothing but, regardless, it's still a fun throwback to long-time gamers.
