Borderlands 3 players, it's time to act fast. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford dropped a Shift code for a Borderlands 3 Golden Key on his Twitter account at around 9:40 am PT. This Shift code came with a countdown, however. It will only last 6 hours, so Borderlands 3 players will have to act fast. The code will expire at around 3:40 pm PT, under 4 hours from the time of this post. The 25-digit code that Pitchford posted on Twitter is as follows: 59CBT-6WJ9B-SWTW5-TT3T3-TZS3S.

For those unfamiliar with Borderlands Shift Codes, there are a couple of ways to redeem them. The shift.gearboxsoftware.com website is one way. Another is to go to Borderlands.com and login with your account. From there, go to the Insiders tab and click "Redeem Code." On this new page, click on the Shift button and paste the code in. If the code hasn't been redeemed and is still live, it'll be registered to the player's account. If the code is bad, a red warning message will send the player on their way. Gold Keys can also be redeemed in-game for Borderlands 3 players who want to avoid creating an account with Gearbox.

Golden Keys are a rare but valuable meta commodity in Borderlands 3. Each key can open a unique chest, granting access to valuable and rare loot -- most commonly a high rarity gun. Each Golden Key can only be used once, however. Once they're used, they go up in smoke. So unlocking a Golden Key can be a very lucrative reward, all for free. Of course, it's also like a loot box in many regards. Players don't have control over what item they receive, so a Gold Key can also be fool's gold.

For those only just getting into the Golden Key code redemption business, there are several codes without expiration dates. Borderlands 3 players can acquire 7 or 8 Golden Keys by redeeming codes that have been shared by Gearbox through a variety of means. Game Rant has a Golden Key guide detailing each of these codes and their rewards. Going forward, Borderlands 3 players can follow the official social media accounts of the game and its developers, though following the Borderlands 3 subreddit is a more reliable way to keep track of currently available codes.

Borderlands 3 has been available for just over a week and players are already hungry for more and more loot. As more and more players reach Borderlands 3's end game, it seems like Gearbox is being more generous with its Golden Keys. And while the truth is that it's not too common to get gear upgrades past a certain point in endgame, it's always a good feeling to open a chest and receive a cool item for free.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
