It was only yesterday that we brought the news that Borderlands 2‘s first (of a proposed four) story expansions had been discovered by clever PC gamers, and now it appears that discovery has spurned developer Gearbox Software into officially announcing the DLC. In fact, rather than leave gamers waiting long for more content, Gearbox has announced this next expansion will be releasing in the now vacant Mechromancer (that new class released yesterday) release date, October 16th.
As the PC gamers revealed, the expansion for Borderlands 2 will be called ‘Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty.’ Though the DLC is said to include new story elements and characters – presumably one named Captain Scarlett – Gearbox has yet to provide concrete details in that respect.
Additionally, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford, who has been trying to keep the focus on Borderlands 2 DLC since talk of Borderlands 3 started circulating, the DLC will also introduce players to a new locale called Oasis. As Pitchford describes it, Oasis more closely resembles “Tatooine than an ocean.” And, just to keep the Star Wars connection alive, the DLC will also reportedly introduce a new sand skiff vehicle for players to explore Oasis on.

To help gamers get a better sense for the environments and character designs in Captain Scarlett, Gearbox has also released a couple of screenshots from the DLC, including a decent look at the game’s virtual box art. Stylistically it’s nothing out of the ordinary for Borderlands (one of our nitpicks in our Borderlands 2 review), but like the first game’s DLC the promise of more whimsical story beats, and more loot (of course), should have gamers excited.
Those looking to pick up Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty next week can do so on all three platforms for $9.99. Or, for anyone that purchased the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, it will simply unlock on the 16th.
Will you be downloading Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty next week? Based on the images what do you think of the direction Gearbox is headed with this first piece of story-based DLC?
Borderlands 2 – Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty releases October 16, 2012 for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

f*** me that was quick, i suppose that’s why they released the mecromancer so early, so that players will have time to get used to her before this.
here’s hoping i at least get through PT1 with my one and only character before the DLC comes out, that way i dont have ot worry about much besides levelling. can anyone tell me how many chapters there are in the main story of BL2, i feel very bored rinse/repeating the same bs over and over again and just want to get PT1 done and dealt with so i can start the real fun
I believe there are 18 or 19 chapters, I don’t remember.
Part one is the real fun, though. After you defeat the end game boss you’re pretty much grinding to level fifty doing exactly what you were doing previously, except the enemies become much harder therefore you’re going to die much more than you might already be. Then after ascending to level fifty, there isn’t much left to do except hunt for achievements/trophies and complete challenges for entertainment, and even that quickly becomes a chore. It only took me about twenty hours (or so) to beat the story mode plus the side missions (minus Terramorphus since you don’t have much of a chance until level fifty) but I was also playing with a partner. Me and him are pretty much bored with the game until next week when the DLC freshens it up for a few more hours of amusing gameplay.
it was the same deal with the original, i just hope the enemies aren’t stronger and have more health like in most RPG’s. the enemies as they are are pretty annoying since they tend to role out of the way when on low health which results in a waste of ammo trying to mow them down >:(
i think playthrough 2 is the actual game b/c like you said, it becomes more challenging and the rewards are greater (better gear and such), plus by level 50 you get to fully flesh out the class which is the best part b/c you end up being super powerful
Does anyone know if the level cap will go up with this DLC or will we have to wait for another DLC before we can surpass 50?
i doubt it will go up so soon, maybe the next DLC, if they released a level cap with every DLC then players would be able to max out almost every skill (if not all) by DLC 4, which would defeat the purpose of picking a play style and sticking with it.
if they where to release a level cap increase, they would have made it apparent like they did with BL1′s cap raises.
I’m the not the type to compare things but I wonder if this dlc will be just as good as the Zombie Island. Then again who cares i’m pretty sure no matter what I’ll beat this dlc again and again.
