Though Gearbox Software is ramping up Borderlands 2 DLC support with the release of the Mechromancer class earlier today, they still have yet to address some of the game's more problematic issues. Several weeks ago we delivered the news that certain Borderlands 2 players were experiencing a full Badass Rank reset and were losing many of their hard-earned golden keys.

While the Mechromancer DLC doesn't seem to be creating any issues, the associated compatibility patch released with the class appears to be causing more than a few problems. Gamers that had only heard about the Badass Rank reset are now experiencing it themselves. Additionally players are reporting a loss of golden keys only after downloading the update.

Even though it's a small minority that appears to be experiencing problems, the fact that Gearbox Software has yet to address the Badass Rank reset is only exacerbating fans' displeasure. Over on the Gearbox forums the developer has promised a patch is making its way through console certification — the update went live on Steam over a week ago — but Gearbox staffers haven't made the process easy. No clear timeline for release has kept many gamers from even booting up Borderlands 2, lest they lose dozens of hours of hard work.

As well, there have been growing reports of the game freezing, and rendering itself unplayable due to auto-saves exceeding a certain size. Gearbox has said this issue will also be addressed in the forthcoming patch, but again there's no definite release date.

It's important to note that the Mechromancer class is not to blame (necessarily) for the new gamer headaches — it's actually the patch that released with the DLC that appears to be causing the problems. So be cautious when booting up Borderlands 2, and for any that are supremely paranoid, better keep your console disconnected from the Internet for the time being.

It hasn't been all bad news regarding Borderlands 2, though, as Shacknews has caught wind of the game's first story-based DLC. Yes, the type of content that kept Borderlands in Xboxes, PlayStations, and PCs for nearly a year after launch is coming to, and hopefully soon.

Three new trophies for the PS3 version of the game revealed that 'Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty' is the first piece of story-based DLC in the pipeline. Additionally, the content will unlock at least two new locations: Oasis and Pirate's Booty. Sounds like perfect Borderlands 2 fodder for us.

PC players did PS3 gamers one better and uncovered the source file for the DLC, which provides a brief prologue for the add-on. Check it out below:

Legends speak of Captain Blade's Lost Treasure of the Sands. Of a prize so great, that men would turn the sands red in pursuit of it. Of a pirate queen, courageous and deadly, who would stop at nothing to find it. Of a monstrous Leviathan. Of the Vault Hunters who journeyed to the desert town of Oasis, not knowing the horrors that would befall them.

Beyond some new story-based content, the DLC is said to unlock a new head for each class, introduce a new rarity level (color), and of course will feature new items, weapons, and bosses. No word on when Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty might release, but we hope it's after the aforementioned patch so more gamers can get in on the action.

Have you been experiencing problems with Borderlands 2 since the Mechromancer released? Any gamers keeping away from the game until their Badass Rank is restored?

Borderlands 2 is out now for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
