As far as Easter Eggs go Borderlands 2 is filled to the brim. While many of them will go unnoticed by gamers more concerned with loot, those who take a careful look around Pandora will find Gearbox Software has peppered the world with clever in-jokes and references.

The newest of those Easter Eggs that has been discovered can be found in Borderlands 2's first DLC story expansion, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty, and is a clever nod to the popular BioShock series. At a particular point in the game players will come across a lumbering enemy dressed for deep sea diving and brandishing a drill for a hand.

As if that didn't tip off the Easter Egg enough, Gearbox has also named the character Mr. Bubbles and given him a female companion. Mr. Bubbles, for you BioShock fans out there, is what the Little Sisters call their protectors, the Big Daddies.

Unfortunately, this particular video doesn't give all that clear a look at Gearbox's version of the  'Little Sister' companion, but for a brief moment she looks the part.

To help get the right AI reaction out of these Big Daddy knock-offs, Gearbox appears to have skinned the 'Badass Psycho' enemy variant from the traditional single player campaign. Once aggravated or fired upon, these enemies will charge the player relentlessly and deal a substantial amount of melee damage — kind of like a Big Daddy.

Borderlands 2 - BioShock Easter Egg

Of course, the appearance of the Big Daddy (or Mr. Bubbles) is but one of the many Easter Eggs Gearbox has scattered throughout the world of Borderlands 2 for any intrepid adventurer to find. Though a lot of the jokes are put front and center for any player to pick up on — like Claptrap's love of dubstep or a meter that goes over 9000 — there's plenty more to uncover right beneath the surface.

Which joke, reference, or pun has had you laughing the most while playing Borderlands 2? If you've found any cool Easter Eggs in Borderlands 2 feel free to share them in the comments below.
