Borderlands 2 Badass Rank Bug

As if Borderlands 2 didn't have enough things for gamers to keep track of — from its bazillion guns to its dozens of eclectic characters — the team at Gearbox Software decided to implement a new feature called the 'Badass Rank.' While not a revolutionary feature, the 'Badass Rank' was a measurement of how many in-game challenges a player had completed whilst exploring Pandora.

Some of those challenges include killing 50 psychos or saving $10,000 while shopping, and are tracked with a handy progress bar. Think of the 'Badass Rank' tracker as a more extensive version of the Gears of War 3 achievement progress tracker.

As the player levels up their 'Badass Rank' they are justly rewarded with the appropriately named Badass Tokens, which can be spent on a wide variety of avatar improvements like gun accuracy, maximum health, or even new skins for one of the game's five classes.

Unfortunately, as with any massive undertaking like Borderlands 2, the game is not without its flaws. One of the peskiest of those problems, as you might have guessed, involves that 'Badass Rank,' and undoes potentially dozens of hours' worth of work.

It's not a vast majority, but some gamers are reporting that, for no reason at all, they have booted up their game to find all of their Badass Tokens gone. The problem gets really hairy because rather than reset the in-game challenges, Borderlands 2 still reports them as completed, essentially wiping out the opportunity to re-earn those tokens.

Over on the Borderlands 2 forums, players on all three platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC) are reporting a loss of 'Badass Tokens,' while Gearbox Software has yet to provide any solutions. Gearbox Community Manager Chris Faylor says the team is looking into the problem, but that was it.

While there's no solution at the moment, given Gearbox's strong ties to its community we wouldn't be surprised if this 'Badass Rank' problem gets rectified sooner rather than later. We will keep you posted.

Have any of you Ranters encountered this Borderlands 2 bug? What do you think of the 'Badass Rank' feature? Has it given you one more thing to obsess over or is it just a useless distraction?

Borderlands 2 is out now for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
