Bizarre Creations Planning Blur Sequels

Despite generally positive reviews, the racing game Blur had lackluster sales. However, Bizarre Creations still consider Blur to be the start of a “big franchise” and plan to develop sequels in the future.

You have to admire their confidence and vision. Game franchises, like movie franchises, are usually cut short when the revenue doesn’t meet expectations. We here at Game Rant enjoyed Blur and encourage people to try the arcade racer.

Bizarre Creations producer Nick Davies tried to explain the possible reason for the game selling less than expected:

“It came out at the same time as ModNation Racers and Split/Second. It rates incredibly highly and it’s a very popular game, and I think it’s going to be a slow-burner. I think the multiplayer will stay for a long time and I think people will come back to that time and time again, long after some of the other games have gone back to the second-hand shelf.”

Blur‘s release window was rather crowded. ModNation Racers and Split/Second both received good reviews and are innovative titles that captured the attention of many gamers. ModNation Racers has become Sony’s racing version of Little Big Planet, with user-created content flooding the PlayStation Network. The competition Blur has to contend with to become “the biggest racing franchise” is staggering, especially considering Gran Turismo 5 is finally coming out and Need For Speed is now in the extremely capable hands of Criterion.

If there is a Blur 2, it would need to be released in a window that it could flourish in without the threat of other racing titles. Along with the release window, a Blur sequel would need to build off the critical success of the original and somehow lure those who passed on the first game. Davies seems confident that Bizarre can achieve a higher level of success in future iterations of the franchise.
