Recent game announcements have revealed that many video game developers are beginning to listen to the wishes and demands of their fans. Games like Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil 2 are finally receiving full-fledged remakes, and Nintendo has polled Super Smash Bros. players to find out what DLC character they should add next.

Fans of the original real-time strategy Warcraft games haven't been satisfied by World of Warcraft, and Blizzard has previously declared the MMO as the direction the series would be going in from now on. Today, however, Blizzard has offered a glimmer of hope to RTS fans that creating Warcraft IV may not be out of the question.

During an interview with IGN at Gamescom, producer Tim Morten discussed Blizzard's future, and what the RTS team behind Starcraft II will be tackling next. He made it clear that the next title they work on is up in the air right now, but Warcraft IV will be considered:

"It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible."

Unfortunately, the team doesn't have any clear idea about what they want to tackle next just yet. However, the fact that Warcraft IV is being considered at all should come as a relief to fans who miss the older RTS-style of Warcraft, versus the gameplay found in MMO World of Warcraft.

While World of Warcraft has broken subscription records and continues to receive expansions, it would seem that Blizzard's attitude regarding the RTS side of the franchise is shifting. Blizzard director Dustin Browder previously noted that the company was considering adding an RTS-style, Warcraft-esque mode to Heroes of the Storm. While nothing's set in stone yet, between these two considerations, it would seem that Blizzard is aware that there is still high demand for a Warcraft RTS sequel.

Since Blizzard is willing to consider the idea, it would probably be a great time for Warcraft fans to make it clear what they want. Petitions and fan remakes, like the Resident Evil 2 fan remaster, have piqued the interest of developers into making fans' dreams a reality. If Blizzard senses that there's enough demand for a proper Warcraft IV, it might just happen.

Do you want to see Blizzard make a Warcraft IV, or should they focus on something else? Let us know in the comments.
