Blizzard Cancels Blizzcon 2012

Blizzard is one of the most respected and revered developers today, and every year fans get to demonstrate their love for the gaming company by cramming themselves into a convention center located in Anaheim, California.

The event in question is called BlizzCon, and it's a huge event for anyone who enjoys World of Warcraft, Diablo, and/or Starcraft. Those who've made a tradition of attending the annual event, were probably amped to be see what Blizzard has up its sleeve for the show in 2012 — that was until the developer announced that BlizzCon wouldn't be happening this year.

The well-known dev took to Battle.net to announce plans for a World Championship Event that's set to take place in Asia later this year, and whilst doing so also casually mentioned that there will be no BlizzCon until 2013.

"We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo IIIMists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possibleIn light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013."

Their reason for removing BlizzCon from their 2012 calendar seems logical, and maybe a year off of the event is a good call, but 2012 seemed like a great year to hold the event; especially given the company's blockbuster release schedule that includes the likes of Diablo 3, Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. Hell, maybe Blizzard would have finally stopped beating around the bush and officially confirm that Diablo 3 is coming to consoles.

It seems that there won't be any exclusive BlizzCon swag for pet-collecting WoW enthusiasts to anticipate. Still, maybe fans will get a peak into the future of Blizzard during E3 this year — in lieu of its own convention.
