Love it or hate it, Call of Duty remains one of the most popular shooters available. This financial and commercial juggernaut is set to make a return later this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, as the franchise continues to tap into a sci-fi future setting complete with augmentation, robots, and civil unrest over technology.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer, players are able to select from a series of specialist classes before jumping into a multiplayer match. The selection will dictate players' loadout and also how they will look. Out of the nine specialist classes that will be available on day one, four Specialist classes have been revealed so far. There's one class however which already stands out above the rest. By all accounts, Treyarch has created a sort of Terminator style class.

According to a new Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 video by YouTube user Drift0r, the Specialist called Reaper is not actually human, but is instead a robot created by the military to replace traditional human soldiers. Unfortunately, the cost of making these robots and the extreme efficiency at which these bots performed threatened to shut the project down. The final straw came when the project leaked to the public resulting in backlash and riots. While the rest of the bots were scrapped and the project shuttered, Reaper's advanced A.I. convinced it to escape and live another day.

What makes Call Sign: Reaper even more interesting is the fact that its special weapon is a minigun that forms from its hand. For Call of Duty fans, they may remember this ability as the "Death Machine" from previous titles in the franchise. Additionally, Reaper has a special ability called Glitch that allows it to teleport around the map.

With this ability, players can actually teleport forwards or up to three seconds backwards. For example, if a player rushes into a room and is surrounded by enemies, Glitch lets them "teleport" back outside and out of danger.

Class loadouts are nothing new to the series, but with this news Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 places a greater emphasis on a class system complete with backstories, personalities, and abilities that fit the character. While certain perks changed a character's visual look in past games, this is the first time the series has actually developed full fledged classes. It's an interesting shift away from the typical nameless soldiers rushing out onto the field or the stronger player customization options in last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Multiplayer news also indicates that Treyarch may have incorporated a few ideas from Respawn Entertainment's popular shooter Titanfall as well. As seen in the recently revealed gameplay trailer, players have access to new traversal moves such as wall running.

Not only that, each player has a slowly charging meter similar to the Titan Core ability meter in Titanfall. While the meter continually charges, players can speed it up by killing other players or helping their team. Once full, players will gain access to their character's special ability or weapon.

So what do you make of this quasi-time traveling robot? Let us know below in the comments.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set for release on Nov 6, 2016 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Neither Treyarch or Activision have confirmed a last gen version as of yet.
