‘Black Ops 2′ Nuketown 2025 Playlist Removed; Treyarch Provides Solution

Nuketown 2025 Returns to Black Ops 2

Since the unveiling of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer, one of the major selling points for the mode has been the Nuketown 2025 map. A redesigned version of Black Ops 1‘s fan-favorite map, Nuketown 2025 was promised as a pre-order bonus to any and every gamer that pre-ordered a copy of Black Ops 2, regardless of retailer.

However, what Activision failed to mention when hyping Nuketown 2025 was the limited availability of the map. While over the weekend gamers were able to get their fill of Nuketown 2025 in its own unique playlist, they have today discovered said playlist to be gone. And, to make matters worse, Treyarch has announced that the playlist — the only way to play Nuketown 2025 outside of a custom game — was only part of last week’s double XP weekend.

Of course, this decision was met with a considerable amount of fan backlash, since Nuketown 2025 was a major determining factor in gamers’ decision to pre-order Black Ops 2. To then prevent gamers from readily accessing the map is in poor form.

Thankfully, Activision and Treyarch have responded with a compromise: a ‘Chaos Moshpit’ playlist that will incorporate many of Black Ops 2‘s smaller maps, including Nuketown 2025. Whether or not the playlist will require Nuketown 2025 is unclear, but our guess is that it will. Splitting the playlist between gamers who pre-ordered and did not would only complicate the matter further.

It might not be the solution gamers were looking for — a better choice would have been treating Nuketown 2025 as a DLC map across all matchmaking — but it’s a serviceable compromise. And more importantly it justifies the Black Ops 2 pre-order.

Treyarch announced that the ‘Chaos Moshpit’ playlist should be rolling out to consoles as we speak, and will go live for the PC tomorrow. For now there’s 14 other maps out there to enjoy.

Were you disappointed to learn the Nuketown 2025 playlist was originally intended for the double XP weekend only? Do you feel cheated by the inclusion of the map as a pre-order bonus?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is out now for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

  1. I’m not usually one to bash a company, but this was a big fail. The only reason I pre-ordered this game was so my girlfriend and I could play Nuketown. Was there even a specific reason why they took it off?

  2. im annoyed… they never said it was for the weekend, it seemed like they were implying it would be availible forever and the fact they cant even put it in the playlist irritates the heck outta me. at least they have redeemed themselves and put it in a another playlist with other small maps.

    • I agree with you, except that putting it in a small map playlist doesn’t redeem them.

  3. This is rubbish. When I am reading this I`m furious!!! I pre ordered this game for me and my wife (yes Nuketown had everything to do with the decision).

So I actually spent £100 for something that I dont get. This made my choice for games later very easy…. Never ever to buy games from Treyarch again and I hope many fellow gamers follow me in that!

  4. Buy now and get the Nuketown 2025 bonus multiplayer map for FREE!

Small and simple, yet lending itself to a variety of playstyles, the original Nuketown became an instant fan-favorite in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

An arena-style map with unique art design, Nuketown promoted the type of fast-paced action that Call of Duty fans from around the world have come to love. Now re-imagined in a 60′s depiction of the “Model Home of the Future” Nuketown 2025 is set to take that familiar close-quarters chaos into the future!

This is copied from their website. ITS BOGUS!!!

    • You can still play the map, it’s fully available on local multilayer and in the new play list, it just doesn’t have its own dedicated play list anymore, which they never promised to be fair…

  5. Yes, I feel cheated. And no this does not redeem activision. I only one 3 games to date BO,MW3, and now BO2. I mean this literally im a huge cod fan and its the only games I play. While nuketown was not the deciding factor in my pre-order, it was for many friends that I talked into pre-ordering. Still I feel cheated even so being promised something as a bonus, then loving it for the first weekend, all the while never being informed that Monday it would be gone. I have some friends that didn’t take the time to download yet and now they don’t get to play it like I did. Its not the fact they did it that angers me its the fact they did it without any heads up notice.

  6. Well I feel sorry for all the people that pre ordered and didn’t quite get what they expected… Someone I know spent £180 pre-ordering for herself n partner n bro in-law just because of the rewards. I haven’t spoken to them recently but i bet they are FUMING! I didnt pre-order as Nuketown was not one of my fave maps lol

  7. as if a COD game couldnt launch without fanboy backlash they go and give ample ammo for everyone who pre-ordered the game to be angry about. pretty sure this was never mentioned in the fint print, if there was even any fine print attached to this pre-order incentive. just waiting for activision and/or treyarch to get sued over the b******* moves they continually make like this, just like EA sports got sued.

  8. BOPS2 SUX..gameplay sux..the guns sux…the hit box(es) suck..the spawns suck….MW3 Rocks and is a billion times better. Treyarch please go out of business.
Infinity Ward knows how to make a COD game!
