Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Reveal Coming

With Call of Duty XP no longer in the cards for 2012 that leaves developer Treyarch with the task of revealing more details in regards to Black Ops 2 the old fashioned way. While we’ve been given quite a solid impression of where the single player storyline might be headed – and even received a closer look at the game’s new Strike Force missions – not a peep has been uttered as far as the game’s multiplayer goes.

Multiplayer has always been an important selling point for the Call of Duty franchise, and Black Ops 2 will be no different, hence the theatrics. At last year’s Call of Duty XP, Activision put the multiplayer front and center, offering attendees the chance not just to see the multiplayer, but also to experience it first hand.

While that will not be the case with Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer, they will be revealing it in spectacular fashion. Over on the Black Ops 2 official  Facebook page, fans were told to synchronize their watches because a global event is just around the corner. What exactly that event might be, whether it’s a trailer or an outpouring of details from a media event, we cannot say, but we do know that August 7th is the day all (or most) will be revealed.

One of the biggest nagging questions in regards to Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer is when the competitive variant might be set. The game itself jumps between the past and the future, and offers player a unique perspective on where warfare is headed.

Elements like the quadrotor and the CLAW mech, while important pieces of the single player, could cause some serious balancing issues when introduced into the multiplayer. That is the nature of the kill streak, though, to provide players with some contentious advantages, some of which are nearly game breaking.

Make sure to keep your eyes peeled this coming Tuesday for all the details, including (we hope) a new action-packed trailer.

What do you hope to see when Activision reveals the multiplayer for Black Ops 2? Will the multiplayer incorporate the futuristic elements seen in the single player campaign?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 releases November 13, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

  1. Probably futuristic multiplayer, or maybe a unique combination of both past and present. I’m waiting for zombies!

  2. I want a gameplay trailer. And not a short one that cuts every hundredth of a second like the latest Most Wanted trailer. I want at least 2 minutes of solid gameplay footage.

As for the time period of the multiplayer, I’m guessing some of the maps will be from the ’80s and some from 2025, like the campaign. That would be the best way for Treyarch to go, in my opinion.

    • Will the weapons be futuristic or contemporary?

      • Good question. I honestly have no idea because there are a lot of different ways Treyarch could go about putting weapons in the game.

  3. They have already stated multiple times the multiplayer will be set in 2025 only.

    • Links please?

      • Have you even watched E3?

        • @StoicMonkey

Gotta be honest, I watched E3 & don’t remember that AT ALL. Probably missed it.

  4. Treyarch has always tried to go farther than expected with their games, and do a great job of it every time. Most likely the multiplayer will be mainly futuristic, OR even have the option to choose what era when you enter multiplayer. This would appeal to some and turn off others. Who knows what will happen? Nobody. The multiplayer could ask for what era when you are picking game mods, and by looking at black ops 2′s popularity, it is destined to sell more than its other Call of duty friends. A big portion of call of duty is having even and awesome battles, but with the new vehicle aspects, this could turn it into more of a battlefield multiplayer. Which I’m sure a lot of people will agree, is a decent step forward for cod, but we don’t want it to be the same as battlefield. Call Of duty has its own “awesomeness” that seems to keep us playing. In all call of duty games there are killstreaks that can turn the tide of the battle from losing by 30 kills, to winning by 10 (just random numbers). The opposing teams always hate this (which makes sense) but it is the whole thrill of playing call of duty. Like in real life, the tide of war can change in minutes. SOmething also tells me that with zombies, there may be another multiplayer mode that will change how the entire world looks at zombies gameplay. I will not get too much into the details which are most likely, but just know this, it could be amazing.

  5. You guys are retarded. Many interviews have been done stating the multiplayer will only be in 2025. It’s called the internet.

    • Once again, links please?

Confirmed in the list here and in multiple interviews on Youtube. Remember google is your friend, it’s a search engine. Use it -_-

        • I did try to find some confirmation using Google, and guess what? Nothing. I tried and came up with nothing.

I challenge the validity of the “confirmation” of the MP maps only being set in 2025, as found on that page you linked, as there are no sources cited for that particular statement nor are there sources cited at the bottom of the article. It would seem charlieintel.com got this “confirmation” from one of these interviews you speak of. However, I have not seen one of these interviews and can’t seem to find one.

          • Shut up. Seriously. “Links please?!?!” If you can’t find the “links” yourself and refuse to acknowledge the validity of the links people post for you, then shut up. Just wait. You’ll find out eventually.

          • Apparently, the links don’t exist or they are very hard to find since I can’t find them. I don’t refuse to acknowledge the validity of ResoluteRai’s link, I challenge the validity of it. By the way, why’d you tell me to shut up? I did shut up. I wouldn’t have commented on this thread again, but then your idiot ass came in telling me to shut up like a mongoloid.

  6. I’m really excited for the new multiply that they re-did. Black ops did a great job with balancing weapons, perks, maps and etc…well maybe not the player lay out. Otherwise I don’t think their will be much trouble much like mw3. The only thing that will kill me are the little kids playing this game –_–

    • Whats the big deal with little kids? I don’t care who I kill. For me, most kids are the easiest one to kill. Are they camping? Use a grenade.

      • I don’t really care what era it is set in, just as long as they address and fix the spawn camping issues…There are “losers” and yes I am using that word on purpose, who only care about K/D ratio and spend their entire time shooting people as soon as they spawn, there are a number of “CLANS” on XBOX live who do this as a team effort. ruins the game for the rest of us.

My Opinion is that there should be a 2 -3 sec grace limit, where if you shoot someone within that time, you die, not them…that would at least give the spawning player time to run or defend.

        • No, you shouldn’t die if you shoot someone during that grace period because, due to CoD’s horrible spawn system, you might just be happening upon someone who just spawned. You might not be spawn camping. Instead, you and the other person should both not die.

    • Mute the little kids. Not that hard.

  7. We haven’t had any zombies info yet!I like multiplayer, but zombies is where the fun is at.

  8. I’m sorry, but I just can’t get excited for this game. Hopefully it turns out to be very good though

  9. if they fix and stay on top of the lag, and that’s a big IF, BLOPS2 might be playable. they pretty much stopped caring about MW3 in terms of patches. every update i’m forced to download when the DLC comes out makes the game worse instead of better.

if i get bested by another player fine. im not one to yell out obscenitites over the mic just because someone killed me. but when i die out of the blue without seeing any bullets hit me or a person anywhere near me, only to watch the killcam and it shows a person standing right in front of me lighting me up it’s beyond frustrating.

    • I never experience that kind of lag. The lag I experience is the lag that results from you or the host having a bad connection, which is why CoD and all other multiplayer games need dedicated servers. This would eliminate any advantages gained by having a good or bad connection to the host, as there would be no host.

      • …they do need to fix the hit detection & knifing though……

        • They really, REALLY do.

  10. I’m more about the campaign than I am the multiplayer.

    • You pay $60 for 5 hours of entertainment?

      • No because after the campaign it’s pretty much up to the online multiplayer for the next couple weeks. Then… well I don’t know.

        • So you’re not that much more about the campaign than you are the multiplayer.

  11. One word: zombies. It is the only reason I’m buying the game, and after the confirmation of 4v4 zombies, they went silent.
