The rumor mongers were unleashed when earlier this week nerds found some lines of code referencing the Playstation 3 deep within Mass Effect 2‘s source. PS3 console owners quickly took up their flags and proclaimed they had finally won the war!
After all, who could argue this indisputable proof:

Ahem, well, the important part is the bottom two lines, because seeing even a small amount of PS3 code means there must be more somewhere, correct? BioWare apparently disagrees. Community coordinator Chris Priestly dropped into the company’s forums and issued the following statement:
The Unreal Engine is cross platform, hence the PS3 code. This was brought up back in Mass Effect 1 days as well.
Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360.
LOCKDOWN!
In the gaming business, we call that final devilish smiley a finishing move.
Unfortunately for PS3 console owners, they will have to obtain Mass Effect 2 for the 360 or PC. Does this bother you Ps3 owners? Is the Playstation 3 less of a console without Mass Effect 2?

I'm glad that Mass Effect 2 will remain a 360 exclusive
why would you want it to remain an exclusive? This is what i dont understand with EA and Bioware, they are not only make a third party game exlcusive, they are INTENTIONALY saying we dont care about are audiance, we dont care about gamers, now M$ gimmie some more money.
Bioware loves Windows, but it's almost a shame that there's a population of PS3 owners out there missing these games.
I wont by a game now that is made by Bioware or EA for that matter. I dont beleiev in the concept of denying your customers and supporters for some quick cash. I will not own a Microsoft system becuase of their business practices (and yes i know how hard that is). I just do not have any respect for how some of these companies do business.
ok… im going to be very frank here… The ONLY reason games are limited to certain consoles has NOTHING to do with which system is more capable of running a particular game. NADA! ZILCH! For years now we have seen from indisputable evidence that the PS3 and the XBOX 360 are practically THE SAME FRIGGIN CONSOLE! ive played both, they both look and feel the SAME WAY!
now to my point. The ONLY reason games come out on specific consoles can be summed up in one word: MONEY. the makers of the games write up contracts to the highest bidder on games in production, because microsoft and sony know that that's how they'll sell more consoles.
end of argument. i understand if this isnt what everyone believes… but it really annoys me, and this is how i see it.
Taylor i understand your point, and agree, but what i was trying to say is that M$ is the only real company that pays for the exclusivity to deny other gamers. Both Sony and Nintendo make thier own games. and i have no problem with this. I also have no prblem with microsofts first party software exclusivity (i really enjoyed Fable and dont expect a ps3 version). My issue is third party game studios who deny one segmant of consumers because they were paid to do so. lets be honest they may make a little more money in the beggining by selling exlcusivity, but they would also make money by releasing it to everyone. ecspecialy in this case where the game uses the unreal engine which is multiconsole. I also beleieve this game will coem out in a year for the ps3 but they cant mention it bc of a contract.
Uncharted didn't come to Xbox, so… do you not play PS3 exclusives either? I'm confuzzled… how do you play Mario games?
That's not always the case. PC games can easily port to Xbox because of the relatively easy development needs. The PS3 core on the other hand, not a chance and it's difficult to easily cross-platform many titles, hence slowdowns in games that come out on all systems.
Without exclusives though, there'd be no point in competing consoles. Meaning, no competition, no need to offer better incentives to us, the gamers.
I don't think BioWare or Valve signed Microsoft contracts for their latest titles, at least not that I heard of.
I do hear rumors that next month we may hear something about PS3 Mass Effect but it could be something else entirely.
I'd argue they're not the same at all though in my opinion, mainly because of how they run games, the dashboard differences and the controllers (FPS doesn't work right on the PS3 controller).
Did BioWare sign a contract with Microsoft?
It's still possible yes, and as to your point about the Unreal engine, that's especially true with the rumors about Epic and their Gears franchise wishing they weren't Xbox exclusive.
This is why I am a PC gamer and own a Wii and PS3. That way I have access to 99% of games I'm interested in. Almost any Xbox 360 game will eventually come to PC.
unchartd is a first party game developed by Sony, therfore your going to need a sony console to play. Bioware and Ea are different. these companies sold thier games to the highest bidder noing there audiance would suffer. U2's only audiance is Sony as they are the makers of the game. Naughty Dog is owned by Sony
I don't really understand why people complain about exclusives. The console industry is a business not a gamer lovefest. Each console is attempting to standout as the one to get so they can increase their profits. One way to do that is to develop relationships with game developers or to buy them outright. To blame any company for taking steps to help their bottom line is silly and unrealistic.
The game business isn't a charity, people.
So then you must be really upset about Insomniac Games then, eh?
