Metal Gear Solid 5 Big Announcement

He may have a love of carefully planned obfuscation and misdirection, but there’s no denying prolific developer Hideo Kojima knows how to make an announcement. Whether it’s Metal Gear Solid or a mysterious game (later revealed to be MGS 5) like Phantom Pain, Kojima has never been one to let a big opportunity pass him by.

And so, with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain set to release this year, Kojima has once again taken to teasing something big. We don’t know what exactly it is, but the announcement is set to take place on Wednesday March 4th at 6am EST.

Kojima first confirmed the imminent announcement via Twitter with the below image. In it, readers will see a stop watch that’s ticking down towards the aforementioned March 4th date and time. For now, though, that’s all we have to work with.

With a game that’s reportedly as vast as Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, there’s truly anywhere Kojima Productions could go with there announcement. Just a few months ago we thought we had basic handle on the game, and then Kojima & Co. unveiled MGS 5’s multiplayer at The Game Awards.

However, if we were to make a guess at what the upcoming news could be, we might think that it’s time for a Metal Gear Solid 5 release date announcement. We’ve known for quite some time that MGS 5 was coming in 2015, but so far Kojima has kept the exact date a mystery. There were some rumors last year that the game might launch in May, but those proved to be hearsay.

Other likely candidates for this Wednesday’s news include new gameplay footage for MGS 5. Granted, the game has already featured some pretty lengthy trailers and demos, but when it comes to Metal Gear even a 10-minute trailer barely scratches the surface.

Whatever the news may be, Metal Gear Solid fans will be right there anxiously anticipating it. So stick tuned to Game Rant to find out what happens when the stopwatch hits zero and Hideo Kojima makes his big announcement.

What do you think the big Metal Gear Solid 5 news will be? When will the highly anticipated game release?
