Bendy and the Ink Machine is one of the most popular indie games ever made, and a second installment, Bendy and the Dark Revival was recently announced to release in the middle of November. One of the reasons for the franchise's popularity is due to the beloved characters in the original game, such as Boris.

Boris had a devastating story in Bendy and the Ink Machine, and has had his own spin-off game since. He also played a very important role in Dreams Come to Life, a novel that takes place before the video games. While he may not have appeared in the trailer for Bendy and the Dark Revival, it is likely that he will be an important character that players should be familiar with.

Boris' Role In Dreams Come To Life And Boris And The Dark Survival

Buddy Boris

Wanting to bring his cartoon characters to life, Joey Drew found a way to transform people how he saw fit. Buddy, the protagonist of Dreams Come to Life, was an aspiring artist who looked up to Joey and began working for him. However, as he started to discover the studio's secrets, Joey began to see him as a threat, and turned him into a real, living version of Boris the Wolf at the end of the Bendy book.

After the transformation was complete physically, Buddy hid inside the studio. Mentally, however, Buddy slowly lost himself, being corrupted by the cartoon character. In Boris and the Dark Survival, a mobile spin-off game, players take control of Buddy as he tries to survive in the studio while remaining hidden. During this time, Boris completely consumes Buddy.

Boris' Role In Bendy And The Ink Machine

Brute Boris

While Boris the Wolf may have been considered by many to be a Joey Drew character, he was actually drawn by Joey's former partner, Henry, who would return to the studio in Bendy and the Ink Machine. As the playable character of the original game, Henry had no idea that Joey had brought their creations to life and was shocked to meet Boris, who accompanied him on his journey throughout the studio. However, things took a dark turn when they met Twisted Alice.

Twisted Alice sent Boris and Henry to go on some tasks for her, only to betray them after they gave her everything she wanted. She captured Boris and transformed him, once again, into a monster known as Brute Boris. Twisted Alice forced Brute Boris to attack Henry, causing players to have to fight against him. Henry was left with no choice but to kill him, causing ink to spread all around Brute Boris' body before he disappeared. Outraged, Twisted Alice tried to attack Henry, only to be saved by Allison Angel and Tom, who had known Buddy before he turned into Boris.

Boris Can Return In Bendy and the Dark Revival

Buddy Boris from Bendy and the Ink Machine

At the end of Bendy and the Ink Machine, players learned that all the events in the game were repeating as Henry and the characters he encountered are trapped in a time loop. This means that after Boris died, he was sent back to a moment in time prior to meeting Henry, an event that has happened over and over again.

The goal of Bendy and the Dark Revival is to bring an end to the time loop, and characters that are trapped in it - such as Twisted Alice and Allison Angel - have been confirmed to be in it. Because of this, it is possible that Boris can be saved from the fate he faced in Bendy and the Ink Machine, though it remains a mystery how much he will appear in the game and what may happen to him once the time loop stops.

Bendy and the Dark Revival releases for PC on November 15, 2022, with PlayStation and Xbox console versions in development.
