Even though the Battlefield franchise has always leaned more towards realism wherever possible, it has also had a great a sense of humor to it. So much so that many gamers have had just as much fun uncovering the various Easter Eggs in the game as they have playing it online.

One such Easter Egg that has gained a ton of traction among the Battlefield 4 community involves the Megalodon. A Megalodon, for those that might not know, is a massive breed of prehistoric shark that lived about 1.5 million years ago.

However, while clues regarding the Megalodon have been peppered throughout the entirety of Battlefield 4's single player campaign and multiplayer, gamers have yet to actual see one…until now. That's right, the giant shark has been spotted, and boy is he awesome.

While the specifics on how to bring about the Megalodon are a bit iffy, we know for sure that the giant shark only appears on the map Nansha Strike. Nansha Strike is one of the new maps included with the Naval Strike DLC for Battlefield 4 that's available now for Premium members and releases in earnest on April 15th.

According to the video featured at the top of the post, the only way to urge the Megalodon out of its underwater home is to place a handful of players (reportedly 10) next to a specific buoy on the map. After that, it's time to wave goodbye to those brave souls.

Battlefield 4 Megalodon Easter Egg

Once players fulfill these very particular requirements, they should be treated to one of the most awesome creations in the entire Battlefield franchise. It's a little goofy, sure, and calls to mind the SyFy flop Sharknado, but is nonetheless a sight to behold.

More importantly for our purposes, though, the appearance of the Megalodon gives hope to fans eager to see some form of T-Rex or dinosaur crossover in Battlefield 4. Much like the Megalodon, DICE has teased a potential T-Rex invasion for quite a while now, and in our minds it's only a matter of time before they deliver.

In the mean time, however, this Megalodon Easter Egg is a fantastic stopgap. It shows that DICE still has a sense of humor, even amidst all of the bad press that Battlefield 4 has received, and that they still know how to make a big splash. Pun intended.

How awesome is this Megalodon Easter Egg in Battlefield 4? Is it only a matter of time before DICE finally grants fans' wish for dinosaurs in the game?
