Battlefield 4 is the best-looking multi-platform title that launched alongside the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it represents the first time developer DICE has been able to bring the franchise's signature 64-player multiplayer to consoles. Unfortunately, all that has been entirely overshadowed by the problematic launch of the game, a release that Electronic Arts admitted didn't meet expectations.

Like NBA Live on next-gen and even Battlefield 3 before it, BF4 launched in what we'd describe as a beta. Its campaign isn't very noteworthy but the multiplayer that players buy the game for is the source of most of the issues. Connection errors and bugs are crippling the game and for us, we haven't stuck with it like we did with Battlefield 3.

We wanted more from the game and while a former DICE developer blames EA for forcing the game out before it was ready and while Holzer Holzer & Fistel, LLC investigates Electronic Arts for statements to shareholders made regarding BF4, we look forward to frequent updates to patch the title up so DICE can get back to working on the DLC - which was delayed as they fix the broken product. The latest PC patch released yesterday and fixed the following (while adding a few new bugs as well):

  • Fix for a crash that would cause the game to stall, resulting in a sound loop. This should eliminate most of the problems relating to this.
  • Fix for the SUAV (introduced in the China Rising expansion pack) not exploding when hitting enemy soldiers. While these indeed should be deadly, they were never designed for “roadkilling” opponents.
  • Fixed one of the issues related to the so-called “Netcode” (see below for details).
  • Fix for an issue where 4x the damage from a vehicle's minigun would be applied to the chest when a player had the Defense specialization equipped.
  • Fix for player tags not always showing when needed to, resulting in players shooting team members.
  • Fix for graphical flickering appearing on terrain.
  • Fixed the instance where players suddenly would transition into Spectator Mode while playing the Defuse game mode.
  • Fix for a Defuse bug where none of the teams would win a round by letting the timer run out.
  • Fix for players getting stuck in the revive screen after being killed.
  • Fix for players getting stuck in the kill camera after being revived.
  • Fix for the game mode specific ribbons being counted twice in the multiplayer progression.
  • Made NVidia 331.82 or later driver versions mandatory for all players.
  • Disabled DirectX 11.1 on NVidia cards that have outdated drivers.
  • Fixed driver version not being properly detected on NVidia Optimus systems.
  • Fixed a minor crash that could occur when bringing up the scoreboard.

Had the game launched in a state we were interested in continuing to play, we'd be normally much more excited about the next bit of news, and if you've been following Game Rant's coverage of the Battlefield series, you can probably guess what we're referring to: Dinosaurs.

The running joke in the Battlefield community and between fans and the devs with BF3 involved dinosaurs and some of us waited in hope that one of that game's DLC packs would add the prehistoric creatures to the game, or at the very least, open the game to the modding community to let them do so. Call of Duty has aliens and zombies - it makes sense for Battlefield 4 to add some similar fun mode. DICE even threw a few dinosaur Easter eggs in the game in DLC maps. It sadly never happened and when surveys regarding Battlefield 4 teased the dino-potential of the latest game in the series, rumors ran rampant again.

The three videos above from the Rogue Transmission map feature a dinosaur roar at the beginning and in one of them you can see the bush shaking during it, as if some large dinosaur was stomping nearby. It's been a hot topic in the forums and on Reddit and there are even players hosting servers dedicated to the dinosaur Easter egg. Click here to see how to activate the Easter egg yourself.

Is this a tease of future dino-related DLC? Are you still playing BF4 or has the buggy launch and lack of co-op, modding, and short campaign turned you off? Would dinosaurs bring you back in? How much better would these games be if modders could expand it and add a Jurassic Park mode? Let us know in the comments!
