Not only is the Commander App for Battlefield 4 now available for Android and iOS devices, letting players on the go participate in matches from a top-down map perspective on any of the game's platforms (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 & Xbox One), but the first DLC expansion is out as well - for next-gen Xbox players anyway.

Thanks to a timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft, the aptly named Second Assault map pack - the first of five planned BF4 DLC packs - is now available for Xbox One players, launching alongside the console itself. And with it comes a new gameplay trailer and a list of achievements for the new content.

Second Assault is catered towards veterans of the series since it brings back four Battlefield 3 maps that have been redesigned with BF4's Frostebite 3 game engine: Operation Metro, Caspian Border, Gulf of Oman, and Operation Firestorm. Playthrough videos of the four maps released earlier this week and are worth checking out to see what changes were made to each. Second Assault also brings back the Dune Buggy vehicle and Capture the Flag game mode so an argument could be made that all of this should be available freely for BF3 players or part of the core game at launch (which we felt was lacking in our review) since none of it is "new" per se, even if they end up being the best available maps.

Second Assault is included as part of the Battlefield Premium package and adds these new achievements for console players:

  • Falling Down — 20G - Kill an enemy with a ceiling collapse in Operation Metro
  • Dirty Job — 20G - Find the hidden tunnel in Caspian Border
  • Torched — 30G - Ignite a brush fire using the repair tool in Operation Metro or Caspian Border
  • Risky Business — 30G - Kill an enemy flag holder while carrying your team’s flag in CTF
  • Blind Bomber — 30G - In a round get 5 kills with air vehicles in Gulf of Oman

Are you familiar with the four maps from BF3 and if so, how do they compare to the 10 BF4 maps?

Next on the docket is the China Rising DLC which four new maps along with "brand new" vehicles and "high tech gear" which we're very curious about. The leaked China Rising details also mentioned five new weapons and another 10 assignments. Could DICE be going the Battlefield 2 route and adding entirely new classes?

Battlefield 4: Second Assault releases November 22, 2013 for the Xbox One.
