We’ve already gone into great depth discussing the destruction of buildings in Battlefield 3, but most of that was trailer based. While that amazing 12-minute trailer does showcase Frostbite 2.0 being pushed to its maximum, it’s all single player stuff.

On the multiplayer side of things, players will be able to exact their own architectural manslaughter, but obviously not on the same scale. To give gamers a better sense of that destruction in Battlefield 3, and not just building destruction, EA and DICE have released a brief, but very awesome new trailer for the game.

Compiled from a combination of single player and multiplayer footage, this trailer is the perfect example of what sets Battlefield 3 apart from its competition. With an ever-changing experience in their midst, players can use not just their bullets to inflict damage, but the surrounding landscape.

If there was any doubt that Battlefield 3 wasn’t going to facilitate our desire to blow stuff up, this trailer clears the air, and the skyline.

As you can see this trailer isn’t just about tearing down buildings, but also about knocking helicopters out of the sky and bringing down massive communications towers. There’s obviously a lot more that can be torn down than what is showcased in the trailer, but this is a pretty substantial taste.

Let’s also not forget that DICE is exploring a ton of different ideas with Battlefield 3 -- not just knocking buildings down -- the marquee focus of which just happens to be the game’s gorgeous engine. We expect an equal amount of tense, slower-paced moments, as there will be high-octane action.

The only real unfortunate thing about this trailer is most of the multiplayer destruction cannot be reenacted until the game releases later this month. With the open beta, which featured two maps on PC and one on console, now in the bag, there’s nothing left for EA to do but unleash an onslaught of marketing that we hope includes more destruction.

Battlefield 3 releases October 25, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
