DICE has once again found itself having to address criticism relating to a skin in Battlefield 2042, although this time it is for a very different reason. DICE previously got itself in hot water for naming an operator's skin "Little Green Man" which is a reference to the real-world conflict between Russia and Ukraine back in 2014.

This time, players were instead upset about the developer's decision to include a Santa Claus skin in the game. The "Father Winter" skin drew ire from fans as they felt that the skin did not align with the tone of the rest of the game. This is owing to the fact that a Santa Claus skin can be viewed as fun and lighthearted, whereas, the premise of the game deals with issues such as a failed state and climate change.

Fans felt that Battlefield 2042 was trying too hard to appeal to fans by adding wacky cosmetics much in the way that Fortnite does instead of continuing with its more mature approach to the shooter genre. DICE responded to this by stating that "Holiday-themed cosmetics could be for 'single-time use' and that some may not appear in the game this year at all." This will seemingly save face in the eyes of some fans as DICE responded to the criticism well by listening to what players actually want. The company further went on to state that the use of more "animated" cosmetics will generally be restricted to certain special events and Portal modes so as to not impact the experience of the rest of the game.

Fortunately for fans, skins are not the only thing DICE plans on changing about the game as Battlefield 2042's third update is alleged to have fixed many of the issues that were irking players. The changes the update is said to make are related to the game's performance and matchmaking reliability which have both been major concerns for players thus far.

DICE is even planning to reintroduce XP into the Battlefield 2042 Portal mode after it was removed due to players creating XP farming lobbies. This means that many players will likely return to playing the mode after abandoning it. DICE seems to be on the right track with Battlefield 2042 at the moment as it is slowly crafting the game into the experience that the game was supposed to be on launch.

Battlefield 2042 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
