EA has been clear that the next Battlefield game won't be released until 2021, with the company opting to wait for next-gen hardware to be available before releasing a new entry in the FPS franchise. While EA has remained tight-lipped as to what the next Battlefield game will actually be, a new leak seems to hint at what fans can expect, though some may be disappointed.

According to a leak currently circulating on Reddit, the next Battlefield game will not be Bad Company 3. Instead, the next game in the franchise will be set in the near future, apparently taking place in 2030. The game is said to feature drones, robotics, and other futuristic aspects, though it will remain grounded in reality. On top of that, the game will feature the return of Levolution, the Battlefield 4 mechanic that allowed players to change the map. However, this time players will be able to execute the changes more tactically, and Levolution will be different each match. Commander mode will also be making a return, and the game is said to feature improvements to level destruction.

The game entered development when Battlefield V was in deep production, and seems to have started out as Bad Company 3, but was pivoted during development because "the game didn't feel like a Bad Company game". The team decided to scrap what they had at the time, and instead transition it to the new title. That would explain the long gap between the two games, as the next Battlefield's launch window is the only thing confirmed about the game.

Needless to say, this information should be taken with a massive grain of salt. The leak was posted by a throwaway Reddit account operating under anonymity. The information is said to be coming from two DICE employees that the leaker worked with as a freelancer, which would make it secondhand on its own. The full leak is fairly detailed, but all the information contained within it would be easy to fake, especially with no other proof. While Battlefield V reviewed fairly well, it had its share of bugs, so DICE will have to be careful with the next game, making sure not to leak any pre-alpha game footage for fans to get upset over.

Either way, Battlefield 6 is a when, not an if. There's a good chance that the game could be revealed during E3 2020, showing off an early demo to tout the graphic capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox One. It's impossible to be sure, but at least fans can keep playing Battlefield V's new content until it releases.

Battlefield 6 is supposed to launch sometime in 2021.
