When you find the right style, stick with it. So even if Batman: Arkham Origins isn't being developed by the same team that brought us the previous two games in the series, it's sticking with the gritty aesthetic and haunting urban backdrop fans know and love.

The latest screenshots give yet another look at the Christmas Eve setting of Origins, and prove that even if this game's Batman is a younger and less experienced version - also not voiced by Kevin Conroy - he's every bit as terrifying as fans expect. As are his enemies.

The main stars of the new batch of images and artwork (besides Batman himself, known for his ability to steal a spotlight) are none other than Black Mask a.k.a. Roman Sionis - the crime boss set to rid Gotham City of the caped crusader - and Deathstroke the Terminator, one of eight elite killer that Sionis has contracted to get the job done.

There's still no word on the seven other comic book assassins hunting down the Batman (although we've got our own guesses), but from the admittedly brief looks we've had at Deathstroke thus far, the game's designers have crafted a take on the character that could give Batman a run for his money. Take a look:

Nobody is questioning Warner Bros. Montreal's ability to make one spectacularly pretty game, and with characters like Penguin, Deadshot and others to call on, writing compelling antagonists isn't going to be the most difficult task. Gameplay is where the team will be most directly measured against Rocksteady, so perhaps it's best if the developers focus on simply telling a strong Batman story, and making it look good in the process.

We're still waiting to see some artwork that will confirm Batman and Robin multiplayer components to Origins' campaign, but we'll settle for whatever the studio gives us for now. Especially if the rest of the villains are as deserving of the spotlight as Deathstroke.

What are you most looking forward to with Arkham Origins: a chance to walk through a Gotham City set in the Arkham universe, or the story at hand? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.
