Batman Arkham Origins Electrocutioner Trailer

We had hoped that New York Comic-Con 2013 would bring us more details on Batman: Arkham Origins, and Warner Bros. haven't disappointed. Besides offering a chance to hear Troy Baker's Joker voice at length, the convention has also seen some announcement that both mobile gamers and comic book fans will be pleased to hear.

First, fans can add Electrocutioner to the list of the eight villains descending on Gotham City to collect the bounty on Batman's head. And mobile gamers won't be left out in the cold either, as Arkham Origins will also be coming to both iOS and android mobile devices.

Both announcements were made via trailer at NYCC, with the Electrocutioner reveal (embedded below) sure to garner the most attention. The electrified member of Batman's rogues gallery joins the likes of Deathstroke, Firefly, Bane, Copperhead, and Lady Shiva, and offers yet another example of WB Games' intention of providing a variety of villain types to players in their first entry in the franchise.

The Electrocutioner looks to have been successfully 'Arkhamized,' but see for yourselves in the video below:

The video seems to set the stage for Batman to do battle with the assassin in something of a cage match - particularly the kind of situation Batman would only be likely to find himself in during his first years on the job. Unfortunately, the footage doesn't reveal exactly how the Electrocutioner boss fight will be different from the many 'electrified' stages of the past.

The developers have remained adamant that their take on boss battles will be a new one for fans; specifically, challenging players to master Batman's methods, not decipher a secret pattern for victory. What the video does imply is that Batman adding enemy tactics to his own arsenal won't be isolated to Deathstroke - the Electrocutioner's shock gloves will also be wielded by Batman after the assassin is defeated.

In addition to the versions of the game shipping to home consoles and to the 3DS and PS Vita in the form of Arkham Origins Blackgate, Warner Brothers has announced that the franchise will also be coming to iOS and Android devices. It will be in a slightly altered version, but with significant talent behind the mobile project:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Batman: Arkham Origins for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch will be available in the console game launch window, with the Android version to follow in the holiday timeframe.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the Batman: Arkham Origins mobile game is a free-to-play brawler that delivers the stunning graphics and quality gameplay fans have come to expect from the team who brought to market fan favorite mobile games Injustice: Gods Among Us and Batman: Arkham City Lockdown.

Check out the trailer below to see the free-to-play mobile version, targeted for a release alongside the game's launch window, in action:

How WB plans to monetize the free-to-play game (if at all) isn't clear just yet, but the mobile title might find a few fans when Arkham Origins drops. Previous entries in the Arkham series have distinguished themselves as finely-detailed, sprawling open worlds that demand hours on end to fully explore. With that in mind, a brief appetizer on iOS or Android devices might hold busy gamers over between weekend play sessions.

What do you think of the announcement? Are you an Electrocutioner fan happy to see the villain granted the coveted title of 'assassin,' or is this yet another roster slot occupied by any villain but your own personal favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments.
