‘Batman: Arkham City’ Save Files Vanishing From Xbox 360

Batman Arkham City Save Files Vanishing Xbox 360

If there’s one thing we hate, it’s seeing a great game get bogged down with technical issues. After a launched somewhat hindered by nagging DLC issues, it looks like Batman: Arkham City has been hit with a brand new wave of troubling afflictions, specifically regarding corrupted save files. The specifics of the problem are still trying to be figured out, but those of you who have yet to finish Arkham City‘s campaign may be running the risk of finding your save files missing altogether.

The problem seems to be found exclusively among the Xbox 360, but whether or not these issues have anything to do with the game’s Catwoman DLC, Nightwing DLC, or the update released on November 9 hasn’t been confirmed. Rocksteady has yet to explain whether the issue is one they can assist with, so affected fans have taken to the game’s forums in the meantime.

While previous issues with the game centered around missing manuals, blank DLC inserts and the like, the cause of this new issue is far more mysterious. Numerous players with campaign progression of various lengths simply fire up Arkham City, and find that their save files have been either corrupted, or missing entirely. With very few similarities between each case, it looks like we can only scratch our heads until the developers of the game figure out a solution, if there is one at all.

We’d hate to think that some players out there will need to start over their almost-completed campaigns, even if we did give the game a perfect review. Perfect or not, having your efforts completely erased without an explanation is never fun. It really is unfortunate that this game’s launch was met with even a single issue, and we can’t help but be nervous considering how much DLC is in the game’s future.

While those of you who have been waiting for the PC release of Arkham City may have seen the delay as torture, perhaps by the time it launches all of the issues will be completely erased. Hey, there’s no harm in looking on the bright side.

Have you run into any of these issues with Arkham City? Any issues that haven’t been brought up yet? We’ll keep you updated when and if this issue is clarified by the developers.

Batman: Arkham City is available now for the Xbox 360 and PS3, with a PC release coming November 22 for North America and November 25 for Europe.

  1. Uh oh, my friend has a saved file for this game on his Xbox that we’ve all been working on. Trying to get all of the riddler secrets so we can go beat up The Riddler, lol. Hope his doesn’t get messed up…

  2. yup just happend to me last week. i new i didnt erase anything. i turned on my xbox to play and found my save file vanished from my xbox. so so so frustrating i was at 56%. now i dont even wanna start over took me 3 weeks to get that far.

    • haha dude if i were u i would just take it back haha bc that has happened to me before on the first batman and i took it back i was so close to beating the game and ill never know the ending maybe if ur lucky u can get a full refund i got lucky and got that

  3. This is what happens when you chop up a game into tiny pieces, to make an extra, greedy buck.

Maybe this will get WB/Eidos/Rocksteady, to stop insulting its fanbase with abusive launch day DLC, and start putting out whole games again. Less chances for stuff to go wrong, and doesn’t screw over your non-internet, bearing fans.

These games are great, but it’s crap like this (not to mention the unacceptable lack of communication from Rocksteady) that ruins a good thing.

  4. Jeez. With this, the constant, irritating lagging in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and the campers galore in MW3 – gamings a really pain in the ass. All three of these games are amazing, but these issues are really, really effecting the games.

    • damn you got bad luck i havnt had any problems with my games.

    • and dlc has what to do with corrupted save files? sounds more like a bug to me.

hope it doesn’t happen on ps3. im 64% and that took forever.

      • well dude it kinda does because people who downloaded the DLC are probably the most people having the problem like u said it might be a bug probably in one of the DLC’s they rushed to get it all out on day one why? idk but to me that was beyond stupid not a batman fan but if this happened to me on skyrim i would go crazy and prob take it back for a refund

      • I’m pretty sure it ties in with the “corrupt DLC” issues also plaguing the game. An issue that seems to affect those who installed the Catwoman DLCeven when offline.
        Of course it’s a bug.

God only knows because WB/Rocksteady doesn’t care enough to say.

  6. Just happened to me yesterday. I was at 69% I think. Needless to say I was pissed beyond belief. I don’t know if this is an indicator but on several occasions the cutscenes in my save file would cut out (without me pressing ‘skip’) whereas on my roommate’s save file, he had no problems with the cutscenes. As of yesterday his file was just fine and mine was missing without a trace.

But I fired up the old campaign again, and started fresh (on a different save file block, of course).

  7. Has happened to me twice now. First time, 56% in. Second, 21%. I had dowloaded an update and the full line oh Batman skins from the market the day before the first vanashing act. That file was saved to the cloud. The second file was on my hard drive. I am wiping all the files, including the Catwoman DLC, and seeing what happens from there. My guess is that this is an issue with the cat woman DLC as it was the free download with the Xbox version, and this seems to be an Xbox only issue. Something with the coding obviously frakked during the rush to get it out for shipment with the game discs.
