Since the release of the Batman: Arkham City trailer, Batman fans have been keeping their ears to the ground listening for any hint of news for the game. The rumble in the distance just got a little louder.
In order to bridge the game between the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum, which earned a Guinness World Record for the “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever,” and the highly anticipated Arkham City, DC is releasing the comic miniseries this May.
The series will be written by Paul Dini, who was a writer for Batman: The Animated Series and both of the Arkham games, and drawn by Carlos D’anda, the concept artist for both games.
Judging by the released cover, below, Batman will keep his same beefed up look in the comics that he has in the Arkham games.
The six-issue series will bridge the gap between the games and will be a must-read before playing Arkham City this fall. The comic shares the same title with the game (“Arkham City“) and will take place one year after the original game. Former Asylum Warden Quincy Sharp is now the Mayor of Gotham City and has big plans for his former institution.
Sharp decides it’s in his best interests to close down Arkham Asylum in favor of the new “Arkham City,” which will serve as the new maximum security home for all of the city’s lowlifes. At the heart of Gotham City, inmates can roam free in their urban prison and do whatever their hearts desire. As long as that doesn’t include trying to escape their new digs.
The former Warden has also left a less than favorable man in charge of the crazies that dwell in the new city, Dr. Hugo Strange. This doesn’t bode well for the caped crusader, seeing as Dr. Strange knows his secret identity.
Each issue will be available for $2.99 and will alternate with “8-page digital first interludes” that go a little more in depth on the story that you will be reading on-page. These shorts will focus on Batman’s many enemies that he has in the new “City” and how they will be battling for power in the city. Each issue will be $.99 and will release between the issues of the miniseries. They will also later be included in print in the Batman: Arkham City collected edition.

Sounds cool! I’d rather the whole thing be in print though. The alternating thing seems a little weird.
its not about alternating, playing the game is so cool and if you like comics since you are a batman fan, this is to be the greatest thing ever!! ( that might be a little dramatic )lol

Not really a comment about the article and a spoiler warning for whoever reads this without completing the first game, but i’m confused.
In the first game if you find and scan all of the hidden slabs to listen to the “voice of Amadeous Arkham” don’t you find out that its actually Warden Sharp and that he’s a crazy nutcase? If i remember correctly you even go back to were you left him and find him gone and a final message. How would he become the mayor of anything if Batman has those recordings?…
I know it was more of an extra little adventure part and not exactly part of the main storyline but it still really bugs me for whatever reason.. Sorry bout this, probly incredibely nerdy, rant just needed to get it off my chest and hopefully get a second opinion
