Ever since it was announced that Batman: Arkham City would prominently feature Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, fans speculated on the possibility of jumping into the anti-heroine's skin-tight leather... boots. When Rocksteady confirmed that the upcoming title would not feature a multiplayer element, fans were no doubt disappointed.

However, with the recent release of a new Arkham City trailer, it's become clear that while co-operative play between Batman and Catwoman may be out of the question, that doesn't mean that we won't get to take the fan-favorite bad girl out on the town.

The new trailer, which also features some great new footage of Two Face, definitely showcases how the playable Catwoman will differ from our time in the batsuit. According to Gamespot, the entire gameplay experience changes when players take control of Catwoman - as the curvy on-again off-again villain isn't concerned with cleaning up the streets, like Batman, her primary focus is looting Gotham City of everything that isn't nailed down.

For anyone who might be reminded of the Joker gameplay in Arkham Asylum, it's important to note that Catwoman isn't just a reskin of Batman relegated to the challenge rooms - with only a different look and few new moves to differentiate her: she'll have her own campaign story beats, weaponry, detective mode, fighting style - and means of locomotion (i.e. an Assassin's Creed-esque parkour traversal mechanic). Additionally, as Catwoman navigates her way around Gotham, with fluid cat-like running and jumping, she initiates a scoring mini-game that rewards players for creative and successful traversal of the city.

It'll be interesting to see how the Catwoman story and gameplay is implemented into the Arkham City experience - Gamespot mentions that Catwoman gameplay is only a small portion of the 25+ hour campaign (around 10 percent). Catwoman sequences are initiated when Batman finds a group of cats huddled together - which could mean that the spin-off sections aren't essential to the main game (like L.A. Noire's street crimes) - i.e. challenge rooms that don't add much to Batman's overarching story but are still incorporated into the open-world environment.

Batman: Arkham City will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 18.
