After her initial outing on Xbox Live as the second downloadable character releasing through Injustice: Gods Among Us' Season Pass, Batgirl was officially confirmed by Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm Studios last week with the release of the first Batgirl screenshot and promise of forthcoming gameplay footage.

They didn't disappoint, and neither does the dashingly deadly Barbara Gordon.

Releasing just days after Injustice's first season pass character, Lobo, became available for download, the gameplay footage stages Batgirl in a one-on-one brawl against the Joker. It's no contest. With the former on hand to showcase her highly-tuned skills, the latter becomes a battered demonstration of Injustice's highly-tuned physics engine.

Despite slicing repeatedly at the Joker with a nifty set of wrist blades, it's clear the Injustice incarnation of Batgirl has a fondness for gadgetry. Teleportation smoke bombs and a fast-acting rope gun allow her to close distance in a flash (and, in the case of the latter, carry a foe skyward before smashing them back into the ground). In one instance she briefly stuns the Joker, shooting him with a harness projectile, and plows over him with her motorcycle conveniently parked in the stage's second tier.

While originally suspected to be a take on he 1960s TV version of the character played by Yvonne Craig, Batgirl's costume pulls directly from her current appearance in DC Comic's New 52 universe. The choice gives rise to her Injustice impetus: revenge. According to the video, NetherRealm Studios plied the narrative context of 1988's graphic novel, The Killing Joke, wherein Batgirl was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by the Joker. Restored via surgical procedure in the New 52 relaunch, nothing, as far as the game is concerned, suits her better than delivering just deserts to the Hawaiian-attired clown.

A date for Batgirl's arrival has yet to unveil itself, but following the Lobo timeline (announced in mid-April; released May 7), it's possible that the character would be slated for the end of May or early June. With General Zod and Scorpion rumored to follow as DLC characters 3 and 4, Injustice has only just begun slipping into its post-release groove.

Do you plan on adding Batgirl to your Injustice roster?
