The tremendous accolodes for last year's top games continues with the BAFTA Video Game Awards, which were announced earlier today. A few months after games like Journey and The Walking Dead took top honors at the 16th Annual D.I.C.E. awards, these games are continuing to rake in the fancy hardware.
BAFTA, or the British Academy of Film and Television, has expanded its reach to include various other multimedia arts including video games in recent years. And unlike the WGA, BAFTA chose titles that most exemplified excellence in their various categories.
Surprisingly, the BAFTA game awards encompasses a wide array of categories, including best performer in a game, best debut game, best family game, and of course best British game. The title of best British game went to the mobile title The Room, a touch-based puzzle game that is a real brainteaser. A sequel to The Room is currently in the works, and should release this Fall.
What could be considered the biggest award of the night, Best Game in 2013, went to Dishonored, one of our top games from last year. Arkane Studios' supernatural assassin title beat out the likes of Journey, Mass Effect 3, The Walking Dead, and Far Cry 3.

BAFTA also extended its Fellowship award to Valve founder Gabe Newell for his contribution to video games. For as much as we like to give Valve and Newell flack for Half-Life 3, his company has changed the games industry for the better in many ways.
For the most part, BAFTA chose some very deserved games in each category, although by now many gamers are probably sick of hearing about how fantastic these games are. That said, these games are pretty fantastic, so if you haven't checked any of them out we suggest you do.
What do you think of BAFTA's selections for their 2013 Video Game Awards? Are you surprised that Dishonored won Best Game?
