Assassins Creed Unity Wii U Release

One of the most requested Assassin's Creed settings is finally becoming a reality this year in Assassin's Creed: Unity, the upcoming game set during the social and political turmoil of the French Revolution. The title was confirmed by an Alpha build trailer that Ubisoft released in the wake of the game's setting being revealed in leaked screenshots, and now Assassin's Creed fans are hungering for more information about the game.

It seems that Ubisoft really needs to start plugging its leaks a bit better. Yet another video of game footage made it online today before swiftly being taken down by a copyright violation claim. This pretty much confirms that the video was genuine as opposed to a fake or fan art.

Before it got taken down, a screenshot of the new protagonist standing in the cobbled streets of Paris was uploaded to Reddit, with a more high-definition version later posted on NeoGAF. As with the trailer the image doesn't give a clear view of the new protagonist's face, but it does show him in a different (pre-Assassin?) outfit with his hair uncovered.

According to rumors, this new protagonist's name is Arnaud/Arno, but other than that there are few clues about him beyond his Assassin status. With the Assassins' reputation for taking out those in positions of power and trying to liberate the common man it would make sense for them to be on the side of the revolution rather than trying to uphold the old order, but a running theme of the series is that there's more to history than meets the eye. It will be interesting to see Ubisoft's take on this particular period in history.

While Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was released on current-gen platforms it was also a last-gen game, so all eyes are on Assassin's Creed: Unity as the first current-gen exclusive title in the series. Assassin's Creed has been praised from the start for its stunning environments, and with the return of a city setting with very tall buildings we can't wait to climb up to the highest perches and admire the view.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be released for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One come Holiday 2014.
