Leaked ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ Image Shows New Protagonist in Paris

Assassins Creed Unity Wii U Release

One of the most requested Assassin’s Creed settings is finally becoming a reality this year in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the upcoming game set during the social and political turmoil of the French Revolution. The title was confirmed by an Alpha build trailer that Ubisoft released in the wake of the game’s setting being revealed in leaked screenshots, and now Assassin’s Creed fans are hungering for more information about the game.

It seems that Ubisoft really needs to start plugging its leaks a bit better. Yet another video of game footage made it online today before swiftly being taken down by a copyright violation claim. This pretty much confirms that the video was genuine as opposed to a fake or fan art.

Before it got taken down, a screenshot of the new protagonist standing in the cobbled streets of Paris was uploaded to Reddit, with a more high-definition version later posted on NeoGAF. As with the trailer the image doesn’t give a clear view of the new protagonist’s face, but it does show him in a different (pre-Assassin?) outfit with his hair uncovered.

According to rumors, this new protagonist’s name is Arnaud/Arno, but other than that there are few clues about him beyond his Assassin status. With the Assassins’ reputation for taking out those in positions of power and trying to liberate the common man it would make sense for them to be on the side of the revolution rather than trying to uphold the old order, but a running theme of the series is that there’s more to history than meets the eye. It will be interesting to see Ubisoft’s take on this particular period in history.

While Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was released on current-gen platforms it was also a last-gen game, so all eyes are on Assassin’s Creed: Unity as the first current-gen exclusive title in the series. Assassin’s Creed has been praised from the start for its stunning environments, and with the return of a city setting with very tall buildings we can’t wait to climb up to the highest perches and admire the view.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be released for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One come Holiday 2014.

  1. I wish they would make a female character, that would be really cool.

    • Open-world games should have a character creator now. New consoles I think are powerful enough to implement this feature and still handle any other stuff.

      • I concur, it just makes it THAT much more entertaining that would go well with their usual reply missions.

    • No, that would break tradition. If a game series started with a male protagonist character it should remain that way. Nothing wrong with female characters but they should take a back seat when a man starts something. Why do you think the only assassins creed game with a female protagonist was reviewed poorly compared to all the others?

I’m glad the developers picked this new guy as the new leading man and not give into feminist thinking when it comes to games. If you want to play a female so badly play another game.

Although to be fair the Assassins Creed franchise should have had a character creation system a long time ago so that we could play our own characters on the side not related to the main story.

      • Having the protagonist as female wasn’t the reason why liberation was poorly reviewed. Since it was initially made for PSvita, the story was lacking and not as in depth as the main AC games. Also, the gameplay wasn’t modified when it was converted to HD.

      • I don’t recall the developers mentioning any tradition regarding the gender of the main characters. If you blame the failure of the game on the gender of the protagonist, that says a lot about you.

    • But they did make a female Assassin.
