‘Assassin’s Creed 3′ Pre-Order Trailer Showcases Mayan Ruins Level

Sep 11, 2012 by

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 3 not only boasts a new setting, a new time period, and a new main character, but it’s also counted among the most anticipated games of 2012. When fall rolls around gamers aren’t going to be pondering whether to pick up Assassin’s Creed 3, but rather where to purchase it.

While most retailers try to sway gamers to their outlet with promises of cheaper prices or a $10 gift card, it’s the pre-order bonuses that really help decide where to purchase a new game. So far we’ve already seen a couple of pre-order bonuses for Assassin’s Creed 3, but the newest one promises a special mission and item.

Only available at GameStop this Lost Mayan Ruins level (seen in the trailer) tasks main character Connor with recovering the lost treasure of Captain Kidd. Like the various tombs from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Revelations, this level requires its fair share of climbing, and (we suspect) a little bit of puzzle-solving as well. It’s all in a days work for Assassin’s Creed fans, though.

The ruins’ treasure, as the trailer explains, is Captain Kidd’s sawtooth sword, which when unlocked can then be used in the single player campaign. The mission itself seems like something fans would love to play, but the decision to have a hokey narrator for the pre-order bonus’ trailer doesn’t sell it very well.

Narration aside Assassin’s Creed 3 is incorporating an entirely new combat system into the game – one that includes on-the-go assassinations among other mechanics – so having access to a better sword could prove to be a significant advantage. There’s bound to be plenty of worthy loot included with the main game, though, but who doesn’t like bragging to their friends about their unique weaponry?

Assassins Creed 3 Mayan Ruins Pre Order Trailer

As the trailer points out, the Sawtooth sword and Mayan Ruins level are only available through GameStop, but it’s important to mention that isn’t the only place to pre-order the game. So choose wisely.

Will you be pre-ordering the game from Game Stop in order to unlock the Mayan Ruins mission and the sawtooth sword?

Assassin’s Creed 3 releases October 30, 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360; and November 20, 2012 for the PC. A Wii U release date has not been announced.

  1. Yayyyy more content on the disc that can only be unlocked by pre ordering. **** you gamestop and **** you assassins creed for doing that.

  2. I knew Gamestop would be getting arguably the best preorder for this (if history holds true) so I preordered a while back…

…but I find this trend, of preorder bonuses that no one else gets access to, to be one of the worst in gaming.

We all should get to play the WHOLE game, doesn’t matter where you bought it, you bought it new and should get to play everything.

    • I agree. I love DLC. But retailer specific preorder dlc is awful for all gamers. I would rather buy my games at Best Buy as they have free shipping but the good preorder bonus is always at GameStop so I have to do store pickup.

  3. …Really? A sword? With all of the possibilities that they could put in this mission they throw in a sword and no lore…? I mean come on. *spoiler alert…* Assassin’s Creed’s present-day story involves the world ending soon. And there’s a mission in a MAYAN temple? The calendar? I mean seriously, I pre-ordered this expecting some kind of ‘end of the world’ prediction that Connor would dig up, and I get a damn sword. Time to cancel my pre-order…

  4. At the end of the footage, the guy sauys “and spark the revolution!” ok, thought you wernt affiliated with either side much?

  5. I am over 30% into the game and still have not gotten the Mayan Ruins mission, am I missing something or have done something wrong??

    • I accessed it by going to my Harbormaster outside the Homestead. It’s listed in the mission map in Mexico (?), but not under the name of ‘Mayan Ruins’ or ‘Captain Kidd,’ but it’s there.
